I think that was more about Hares limitations than how good Rivera was.

rivera was a decent fringe contender in his day, kinda like a lower level orlando salido. he was a regular on usa tv back in the 90s/early 2000s

i see he's still fighting today and is on 32 losses

Yeah. Hare headlined at least a couple of Sky shows with awful undercards from memory. They’d be ripped to shreds if they were on TV nowadays on Sky.

Yeah. Hare headlined at least a couple of Sky shows with awful undercards from memory. They’d be ripped to shreds if they were on TV nowadays on Sky.

I think they were Matchroom. Dale Robinson and Mark Hobson on the undercard (in no way connected to serial killer Mark Hobson).

Rather you than me! It’s interesting looking back at shows like that. People often talk about it being loads better 15 years or so ago but the quality of shows was, on the whole, worse than it is now. We did get the occasional really good card (mostly from FW) and great fight (Moore vs several, Arthur/Gomez) but the majority of cards were fairly poor.

I also wonder what Jamie Moore’s career would have been like if he’d have had Eddie’s hype machine behind him. I’ve got a signed poster of his fight with Macklin in my office at home and it always disappoints me that a fight like that was at the George Carnell Leisure Centre in front of what, 1,500 people.

And Macklin only got 99 tickets! There was some good fights on and weekly. Some crap as well. Any non ppv show now is basically an advert for ppv! My favourite was the old Screensport shows with the full bill on. Setanta had a good run. Mitchell-Johannesson on the Haye-Maccarinelli undercard for regular subscription, now we get Campbell Hatton for £20.

The screensport shows were a bit before my time but anything with the full bill on would be fine by me.

Yeah - Setanta had some good shows for a while and that Haye/Macca show was the highlight. They needed some big fights to get people signed up to the platform though. They paid well for boxing and massively overpaid for the football hence their British entity going bust. One of my mates worked on the administration with Deloitte.

I think the regular Sky shows this year have been pretty good in fairness. Some really good fights. The weekend’s show shouldn’t have been Ppv though. Still a much better card than Khan/Prescott but those fights would have been better split over a couple of Saturday fight nights.

Mormeck- Haye, Calzaghe- Hopkins/Kessler. Bunces boxing hour.

Ruiz wasn't exactly unknown but was considered a fringe contender when he upset AJ

The phrase 'Mexican road sweepers' appeared within the boxing community (? Nigel Benn) as a broad statement describing part time boxers who are full time workers from seemingly insignificant countries. This now seems to have been superseded by the phrase 'Latvian bin man'

I took my dad to that show, we were in the stand where it kicked off. Drunk fans kept waiting for ages between bouts because they couldn't get another ambulance there on time or something. Bored, drunk rival fans, it started off with verbals and then got a bit physical. Crisps everywhere. Ring announcer had to threaten them with the show being called off.

They rarely say doorman! When in reality there are more boxers working doors than driving cabs and def more than bin men and roadsweepers!
