quitting, and whether a quit was justified are 2 different things
I'd just rather people use a less pejorative term. "Quit", "Quitter", or "Quitting" just sounds so feeble, so inadequate even if it is accurate by definition. A fighter who suffers serious damage which threatens to end their career, their ability to ever recover should they elect to continue, even threatens to end their life in the worst cases, doesn't deserve to have their reputation tarnished with a miserable, derogatory word like"quit". It's a shitty word.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑11 May 2021, 13:47 quitting, and whether a quit was justified are 2 different things

Didn't Inoue suffer the injury in his fight with Donaire? He boxed on, some fighters do, some fighters don't. It's a matter of choice and nobody can really say a fighter should continue.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑12 May 2021, 04:44Orbital fractures are as rare as unicorn șħĩṫ!Noxy wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 15:17 I'm watching a few IFL interviews. And I guess twenty years or so ago, these sort of injuries would have been wrongly diagnosed (or at least harder to detect).
However, I’m pretty sure that John 'The Beast' Mugabi, Melrick Taylor, Paulie Malignaggi, Andrew Golota, Rafael Marquez, Bobby Czyz, Denis Lebedev, Antonio Margarito, Alfredo Angulo and Kell Brook have all suffered similar injuries to Billy Joe Saunders.
Naoya Inoue did indeed suffer an orbital fracture. So we can already name about a dozen fighters that have suffered these sort of injuries.Monzon83 wrote: ↑12 May 2021, 07:30Didn't Inoue suffer the injury in his fight with Donaire? Clearly some boxers have boxed on with the injury that BJS suffered (or worse). He chose not to but he has the right to do that.

you can't continue to fight with a broken/cracked orbital bone/severly damaged eye socket... whatever it was.
if your jaw is dislocated/broken and you're crazy you can try to protect it by moving, punching covering up like ali or arthur abraham did.
with a fucked up eye like that there is just no going on. period.
props to canelo for his precision and power. one punch ended the fight.

True enough but it's never good in a boxing sense is it? BJS does deserve to get abuse for a lot of the things he's said and done, but in the interest of fairplay (I was going to say 'truth and accuracy' but I didn't actually see/hear the interview) I read that what he said was along the lines of "Fair enough if Daniel Dubois had a genuine serious injury but I don't think he was badly hurt"‘skanksta wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 11:05yeah - semantics makes it such a loaded word.candyslim wrote: ↑11 May 2021, 18:39I'd just rather people use a less pejorative term. Quitting can be good too.., quitting smoking, quitting while you're ahead etc. etc.
"Quitting" and "not going blind" are the same thing here.
BJS deserves it tho !
This was so ridiculously over-the-top it was clear to me you were either a total raving nutter or far more likely, in fact almost certainly, employing irony to highlight the absurdity of the argument. I did in fact point this out on the previous page.adislav123 wrote: ↑13 May 2021, 13:46

Aside from your idiotic homophobic slur in a time that even the dumbest moron in the corner licking his own flowing boogers would be smart enough to avoid, you couldn’t be more wrong about every single word that I was dumb enough to take the time to read. Orbital fractures are as rare as unicorn șħĩṫ!
And I guess twenty years or so ago, these sort of injuries would have been wrongly diagnosed (or at least harder to detect).
However, I’m pretty sure that John 'The Beast' Mugabi, Melrick Taylor, Paulie Malignaggi, Andrew Golota, Rafael Marquez, Bobby Czyz, Denis Lebedev, Antonio Margarito, Alfredo Angulo, Daniel Dubois and Kell Brook have all suffered similar injuries to Billy Joe Saunders.
Clearly some boxers have boxed on with the injury that BJS suffered (or worse). He chose not to but he has the right to do that.
That said, I'm guessing (like every other sort of injury) there are varying degrees of severity of orbital fractures, which meant that some fighters could continue, but others couldn't.
Billy Joe's cheekbone was collapsed to the point his eyeball was no longer visible. And from a layman's perspective, Saunders injury seemed outrageously bad.
However, a lot of fight fans are thick fṹḉkḛṛș!
They ignorantly assume that all injuries are the same. "One fractured orbital bone injury cannot possibly be worse than another!"![]()

So let's imagine a scenario where fighters A and B endure some form of trauma that results in their orbital sockets being fractured.
Therefore, if fighter A boxed on, but fighter B refused to continue, then ignorant fight fans unfairly accuse fighter B of being mentally frail and will also ridicule him to high heavens.
At the end of the day, boxing is only a sport. There's much more to life than losing a sporting event.
It must be the lack of sunshine in the UK which makes us vitamin D deficient thus making our bones more brittle?
The best way to ensure people stop using the term is to ridicule BJS as much as possible for using it to denigrate others and then doing the same thing himself, which is what is happening.candyslim wrote: ↑11 May 2021, 18:39I'd just rather people use a less pejorative term.
