Calzaghe v Lacy.....Talk about one fight ruining a career. A pugilistic version of Chinese Torture.
Ali v Terrell....The fight where Ali kept barking "what's my name what's my name"!!
Holmes v Ali....Nuff said.

Thing is with a bit of TV exposure he would have been a fan favourite but back then no one was taking a chance on foreign fighters.Coco wrote: ↑20 May 2021, 19:13
I shared a changing room with Karim in Cleethorpes one night, could barely speak English, lovely bloke, brought in as the opponent and battered the home man. He really could fight, typical case of no one wanting to fight him and he didnt have a promoter behind him. If only he could have sold tickets!!
His style was pretty much like Ricky Hatton. Great body puncher and tremendously strong.
Over a longer fight you would have to be pretty special to avoid getting stopped late or out worked down the stretch by Karim.
The guy went toe to toe in spars with Wayne Alexander (with the big gloves obviously ) who as we all know was a brutally hard punching light middle and Karim was light welter.

Denis Lebedev v Guillermo Jones. The state of Lebedev’s eye still amazes me, yet his corner kept sending him out

You'd think the doctor would have stopped it.Stevieaber wrote: ↑21 May 2021, 07:20 Denis Lebedev v Guillermo Jones. The state of Lebedev’s eye still amazes me, yet his corner kept sending him out

It's fights like that where you need a Ben Davison in your corner.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑21 May 2021, 07:47You'd think the doctor would have stopped it.Stevieaber wrote: ↑21 May 2021, 07:20 Denis Lebedev v Guillermo Jones. Remember Antinion Margaritas eye too?
Re: Sitting Ducks (Boxers)
Didn’t Rahman have a bad eye/head injury, not sure how long his corner kept sending him out?
Re: Sitting Ducks (Boxers)
This was one of the worst I've seen. Was Kosta Tszyu in his corner, and the Russian mafia.Stevieaber wrote: ↑21 May 2021, 07:20 Denis Lebedev v Guillermo Jones. The state of Lebedev’s eye still amazes me, yet his corner kept sending him out
Re: Sitting Ducks (Boxers)
Just got the chance to watch that one. The ref had no business letting Warrington make it out of that original round of damage, and his corner should have toweled it. He was completely done.NoScoutingReports wrote: ↑20 May 2021, 16:18 In recent times Warrington was badly hurt against Lara but was sent out again before eventually being badly knocked out.
But, the kid stayed in there and actually managed to make somewhat of a fight out of it for a handful of rounds. Really a gallant and potentially tragic effort. Would have been much better for him if he had the switch flipped off like PWill v SMartinez.
Still...I will always respect Warrington the warriors willingness to quite literally go out on his shield that night.

In that one Jim Evans wanted to pull him out but his dad kept sending him out!

Agreed, just highlighting the fact that he was in big trouble, could barely get to his corner if I remember rightly. Huge heart to carry on.ironbeard wrote: ↑21 May 2021, 09:02I will always respect Warrington the warriors willingness to quite literally go out on his shield that night.NoScoutingReports wrote: ↑20 May 2021, 16:18 In recent times Warrington was badly hurt against Lara but was sent out again before eventually being badly knocked out.
Re: Sitting Ducks (Boxers)
While most probably consider that to be what started Lacy's decline, he actually tore his rotator cuff in the 2nd round of his next fight (Vs Vitali Tsypko) and was physically never the same.My Name Is Earl wrote: ↑21 May 2021, 04:32 Calzaghe v Lacy.....Talk about one fight ruining a career. Now I'm sure the Calzaghe fight left a few mental scars and might have made him question how good he really was, but it's the Tsypko fight which actually ruined his career.
Re: Sitting Ducks (Boxers)
Alex Dilmaghani's corner should have pulled it against Zaini. Stanley Christodoulou letting Jackson carry on against Castro was one for the ages!
Re: Sitting Ducks (Boxers)
Jess Harding against Gary Mason in their British title fight.
Gary inflicted the damage at the end of the first round and it was just a matter of time when the bell went to start the 2nd round before brave Jess had his lights turned out.

That was a brutal ko,head bounced off the canvas live a football.
Re: Sitting Ducks (Boxers)
It was ! Harding was out of his depth, but a good reminder of how heavy handed and skilled Mason could be
Re: Sitting Ducks (Boxers)
True. Stanley certainly gave them both every chance. At no point were Castro's eyes rolling around in his head though!JamesPhilips wrote: ↑22 May 2021, 08:37To be fair you could argue he shouldve stopped Castro with the hiding he was getting as well!

He was a top fella
Peter McNeeley v Henry Akinwande
McNeeley wasn't particularly good to begin with but by the time he boxed Akinwande he was shot to pieces. Horrible mismatch![[icon_shame.gif] :shame:](./images/smilies/icon_shame.gif)
