If he is still comfortably making the weight then no. He should “do a Hagler” and fight the big names coming up to his weight.

There are plenty of big fights at 140 though, and they are far less risky: Zepeda, Davis v Barrios winner, Teofimo, Haney, Mikey, and a rematches with Prograis and Ramirez if they earn them.
The waters at welter are far more dangerous, even if you remove Spence and TCraw from the mix.

Crawford is a big welter now. He will never agree to it below 145. Could do a Calzaghe/Eubank and feast on some underwhelming opponents, but no way will he unless the big names at lightweight don't step up. As a fighter he's in a fantastic position overall. Holds a lot of aces as well as belts.

Taylor needs to fight lightweights and Welterweights because that's were the big fights are, but he needs to fight them at light welter, he holds the cards and he holds the belts.

After seeing Ponce on the weekend, that is a guy I would like to see Taylor fight.
Maybe it was a career high performance against Ritson, but if Ponce can replicate that work ethic again against Taylor, then he is going to be a handful and it wouldn't be dull, that's for sure

Keep at 140lbs for a few more years and wait for the likes of Loma, Lopez, Tank (who is fighting there next) to move up.
Big fights and big money fights, too.
Unless he moves up for the Crawford fight but he can always move back down if it goes tits up.
Taylor should be in big fights for the next 3 years if he’s continued to be promoted correctly.
Forget mandatories when you hold all the belts.

there is no star opposition there now, but some reasonably interesting potential fights, but id be interested in seeing him vs mattias, barboza, ergashev, antuanne russell.....

100% right. Monzon and Hagler had the right idea. Moving up in weight for anything other than an extraordinarily large purse is way too risky - it ruins far more fighters than it helps, and if it goes wrong, moving back down is very hard to do (with Donaire being a notable exception). Rule the division and let people come to you.
