He loses rounds adapting to his opponents style.
If thats the case , why against Ram did all 3 judges have him LOSING 3 out of the last 4 ,, one actually having him losing the last 4

I agree, but an important addition to this is the trainers fight IQ, how well they can read and break down an opponent and devise a winning fight plan, and how well they can operate in a corner during a fight. To be fair to Ben he seems to do well in this respect, it is possibly his main attribute, as I doubt he is teaching established fighters like Fury, Sauders, Taylor any new tricks in the gym.

Davidson was mentioned a couple of times in the Haney fight last night, that Haney has said he has improved and learnt things from working with him. I get people don’t like him but he must be doing something right, he mixes in boxing circles all the time and would soon get found out.

He’s f*cking everywhere isn’t he ? I think every corner man these days turns around and Davidson is behind him, shouting up instructions

I don’t think there’s ever been a greater trainer in the history of boxing, than Ben Davidson

one of haney's worst performances tbh, whatever he learned he didnt apply

did anyone who watched that really think haney showed improvement, and if so, at what? tbf he still made history though, as the first to beat linares with stopping him!

i guess if you measure a trainers record just by their fighters record, its another W for big ben though....trainer of champs :box:

Haney seemed stuck between styles for me. Looked great for the first 4/5 rounds but then wanted to walk Linares down and stay in the pocket which is when he slowed down a little bit, got caught more and then hurt.

That may have been Bill’s strategy but it may also have been symptomatic of having 2 voices in the corner and essentially 2 trainers.

Well before the fight Haneys but i did read it somewhere that Davidson did'nt really have any imput ,,, then seen Davidson saying they had a great camp bla bla bla ,,, was'nt saying out right but implying he had a bit to do with it ,, So maybee he did maybee he did'nt ,, but if we give him the benefit of the doubt , and say he did have a bit to do with it , what happenned .

Well Haney came in with a different style , that we do know ,,, and Haney just like Taylor gassed and lost the last 3-4 rnds .. This young fella is quick to take credit for the work of others , and for some reason able to get the ear of established top boxers ,,, Noticed Haney on a few occasions doing the same roll into a punch that Billy Joe was doing , he was lucky Linares did'nt time him with the uppercut ala Canelo ,,, Except for the fact that he's obviously an MTK stooge i doubt to many would be seeking him out ..

Seen an interview with Mcguigan , and he virtually said , splitting with Taylor was inevitable because they don't work with a certain team , , was'nt so much Josh Leaving him for greener pastures more a case of politics .

I sometimes think people read too much into being a trainer. With respect they aren’t brain surgeons and most if not all the skills are learnt from being around fighters and watching them fight and train. Also obviously having an eye for it and an interest and passion for the sport. Experience comes with time but all the best trainers in the world were novices at some point and if a trainer doesn’t gel with the fighter it doesn’t matter how great they are. As we’ve said before a trainer can only do so much, the fighter is the one who fights and how much can they add to well established and experienced fighters anyway.

Fans who have never been in a boxing gym seem very impressed by some technical talk or smart breakdowns. When you have boxed that stuff is just normal. Those discussions are had in the gym all the time.

Davison gets more respect across the pond than he does here, no doubt he's highly thought of in boxing, the masses slaughter him but fighters and journos rate him and even more so now

He does seem desperate to sound like the Yoda of boxing wisdom and he seems to have blagged his job and status, but..,

Taylor, Fury, BJS and now Leigh Wood with a "'WBA;"** World title*". is an astonishing resume.

If boxers feel comfortable with him, like him and what he says, and they're performing well then he's a good trainer !

I can't imagine him coaching a novice, but then Tunde has done that very well, whilst being an obviously crap cornerman. It's hard to imagine Davison wouldn't have given Yarde better advice than "Lions in the Camp!" isn't it.

Maybe it shows how bad boxing trainers generally are ? Tesco Joe was terrible for Quigg vs Frampton, but he's successful. I've mentioned Tunde already. Davison has had big success from basically turning up at the gym.

However it's happened we HAVE to accept he's a successful trainer. :maybe:

Good luck to him.

Whether you like or loathe him he's going to be around for long while. Trainers do not make fighters but they can generally improve them or give them a fresh look for particular fights or stages in their career. The raw and/or established ingredient in the fighter/boxer has to be there though.
