I just think he's a limited fighter, could've very easily lost the decision to english level ofori. making the most of what he has as far as i can see....might even end up with a world title shot

Gosh, you say limited fighter, I say fundamentally sound :D
He seems to have a good team who should be able to develop him further, and the all important promotional backing that might just be able to wangle a title shot :maybe:
Not that he will be ready just yet.

The question for me at the moment is not how far could Sharp go, but is he going to be prepared when he steps up a level ?

How many times do W@rren's fighters enter world class matches ill prepared :maybe:

Sharp could end up being another one.

Has W@rren got some massive blind spot that he keeps missing with his boxers !

That’s the problem they are not getting 2-3 gut check type fights in trenches before hitting elite - your jumping from Chnapionship to Champions League - some will pull it off but others get massively exposed.

Jack Catterall - hard to know exactly what his level is - but he’s going to fight Undisputed King in Taylor who’s last 5 guys are (135-1) in record - who’s he been in with to then fight Taylor ?

He could be fringe World Level but we’ve never seen him in with anybody.

Terry Flanagan was similar.

He’s got at getting his guys into positions in rankings without taking many risks.

Flanagan and Catterall at least had boxed for the British title against proven domestic opposition. Sharps beat area level guys.

Same with Yarde. Got the WBO European belt early and ran with it.

Yep - same with Liam Williams up at middleweight. He fought some decent opposition at light middle (Smith) but very little at middleweight to justify the mandatory position or get him ready for the fight.

Press Release

Light-Heavyweight rivals Lyndon Arthur and Anthony Yarde both return to action on Saturday July 10 at the Royal Albert Hall, ahead of a contracted rematch later this year.

Arthur narrowly outpointed Yarde in December and they will get a close up of each other once again on Queensberry’s summer special live on BT Sport.

In the main event, Arthur (18-0, 12 KOs) defends his WBO Inter-Continental title against Italian champion Davide Faraci (15-0, 7 KOs).

The Mancunian became the number one ranked contender for Joe Smith Jr’s WBO World title after his split decision win against Yarde and can afford no mistakes against Swiss born Faraci.

As well as his lofty WBO ranking, Arthur is ranked number four by the IBF and nine by the WBC. Artur Beterbiev holds the IBF and WBC belts.

KO King Yarde (20-2, 19 KOs) aims to be back with a bang when he meets unbeaten German Emin Atra (17-0, 12 KOs) in a non-title ten rounder.

Yarde had been due to meet Atra in April, but was sidelined because of a dental problem which forced the delay.

Yarde showed he belonged at world level when he came close to toppling then WBO World champion Sergey Kovalev in August 2019 before losing in the 11th round.

Ilford’s big hitter returned with wins against Diego Jair Ramirez and Dec Spelman before running into Arthur who he will be desperate to meet in a rematch.

Despite the setback against his bitter British rival, Yarde has remained in the world ratings and is ranked high by the IBF, WBC and WBO.

Promoter Frank W said: “Of course, the rematch is what everyone wants and it will happen at some stage.

“It is fantastic to get them on the same bill. Both of them have a point to prove and BT Sport viewers can look forward to them both impressing.

“Lyndon has leapt to number one with the WBO and will want to show the champion Joe Smith Jr how much of a threat he is.

“Anthony will still feel aggrieved that the decision went Lyndon’s way and has vowed never to trust judges again so he will go for it against Atra, for sure.”

Also on the bill, WBO ranked number one Super-Middleweight Zach Parker (20-0, 14 KO’s) returns with his opponent yet to be confirmed. Zach is looking to defend his position ahead of hopefully being made mandatory to the World title held by P4P King Canelo Alvarez.

WBO ranked number four Super-Featherweight, Archie Sharp (19-0, 9 KOs) faces Nicaragua’s Marcio Soza (21-6-2, 12 KOs) with the vacant WBO Global championship on the line.

They had been due to meet at the weekend, but a COVID-19 issue involving Soza meant a short postponement.

Warren added: “Archie is another Queensberry fighter high in the world rankings and providing he keeps winning and remains patient his chance will come.”

“Zach Parker was hugely impressive in his last fight, seeing off Vaughan Alexander – who hadn’t previously been finished – in just 2 rounds.

“I believe he has the power to knockout anyone in his division and look forward to another exciting performance from him.”

More big fights will be added to the bill in the coming days.

Tickets will go on pre-sale with the Royal Albert Hall tomorrow and on general sale Thursday.

Ticket prices as follows:

Grand Tier & Loggia boxes – £100
2nd Tier boxes – £75
Front Stalls – £75
Rear Stalls – £50
Rausing Circle – £50

Instead of challenging for the English/British/Commonwealth belts, or have any meaningful fights,

He did a Yarde, went straight into the WBO European route.

This fight is for the WBO Global title.

Shakur wants to fight Herring next,

Sharpe is currently ranked #2. Muhammadkhuja Yaqubov is #1,

no way he fights him, he'll find a way to become mandatory, then steps up, fights for world title and BOOM! he;s out-clssed.

It’s quite sad. I was listening to an interview with a fighter a few days ago and he was saying he was European champion. I can’t remember who the fighter was but I checked out his Boxrec and he was IBF European champ.

It just continues to lessen the value of the traditional titles. I remember when you winning the EBU title was a big deal and gave you a deserved ranking.

Now certain fighters/promoters just go after the random titles, get a high ranking and wait for a big fight so they get a decent payout rather than having the tougher fights, where there’s a risk of losing, that would actually prepare fighters for step up.

It seems to be happening more and more with FW’s fighters. How an earth can we take Sharp seriously when his best win is against Leon Woodstock and he struggled past Jeff Ofori. Yet he’s actually talking about himself beating Shakur Stevenson. It does the WBO no favours either.

Archie's level is surely clear already ?

He'll be a good Brit champ and a weak euro one - poster boy for this class...
Frank Buglioni.

Not a bad career and hope he can go higher.

Got to fight for the British title first rather than bypass it to prove it. His a decent fighter but world title shot talks are a joke. His best win is area level at best.

Same thing with Yarde. The first real domestic boxer he fought was AFTER a world title bout. And he lost!

It’s true that he hasn’t proved anything yet, but you can’t always wait for proof. You can see with your own eyes !

Can he win a BT ? Almost certainly at some point.
Can he win a Euro..? Probably, with a fair wind and some good matchmaking.
Will he win a WT ? Almost certainly not at any point. Especially not at 135.

he doesnt really impress me, not on the eye test or his results. i think he'd have a hard go vs a british level opponent though winning a british is feasible. even weak euro guys might even be too much though

he easily couldve lost that decision to ofori just last fight (he did for me) --- that's not good british champ type of stuff. a good british champ to me is someone who is winning these types of fights handily and is making the statement that he belongs at the next level or at least that it's time he be moved up there to give it a go

between his fights vs ofori and woodstock he's lost about as many rounds as he's won for me

It's almost three years since he beat Woodstock - hardly moved on at all in that time.

Yes, perhaps you're right.
He has looked gassed and in deep a few times in quite low level fights too.,
Good watch tho.

Sharp is protecting his world ranking. Ranked high due to the stupid WBO European belt. He won't fight anyone with a pulse to protect it.

Was getting outboxed by geraghty until a big punch landed.

No way will he fight Cacace even though its a simple fight to make.
