Sky may have decided to put it on PPV so could have ended up more expensive than Fite TV.

At least it would have given the fight far more visibility though.
Only way SKY would have done that fight as a PPV would have been if it was UK based and in front of a big crowd. No question.

I wouldn't get too excited fellow fight fans. Arum has been desperate to get into the UK PPV market, but was fkd because Hearn steered the tiller. Not now though and Arum has found his way.

Rest assured - You'll be paying to watch those big match ups.

It seems a very odd deal....Now obviously they might have been saying porkies and obviously in a new direction anything can happen....but time and time again Hearn and Adam Smith have been saying US shows dont do well in the uk...so a 4 year deal seems alot.

My gut feeling as part of a cost cutting exercise we will get the direct US feed...so US presentation

I can only assume that Sky will take the feed so will have minimal outgoings. There should be no need for Sky to waste money on their own boxing team when they can utilise all the onsite broadcast team/facilities
Probably Anna and Johnny in the studio.
Nah US cards in the small hours aren’t aimed at the casuals so no need for eye candy presenters like Anna. Hopefully a long overdue return for Ed Robinson

What about domestic shows? So it will just be early morning shows from now on?

I was genuinely hoping we would see the end of Adam Smith so if I’m honest, this is terrible news…

Well Adam Smith is no longer head of boxing. But I’m guessing he may still have some role.

I’m terms of domestic, I’m sure they’re working out some deals with different promoters.

I remember prior to the Matchroom exclusive deal, we had Hatton Promotions and Dave Caldwell Promotions and so on. They had their own stable of fighters and there was a lot of crappy small hall show cards on Sky.

He was promoted - now in Corporate Role but also still keeps eye on the Boxing side.

Boxing makes SKY money with the PPV - unlike a lot of Sports they show.

It was on IFL interview with Smith he tells about new role - corporate role/contracts etc.

Think it was Barney Francis (before leaving Sky) who got him the role.

Still plays part in Boxing but he’s definately not just Boxing now - higher up tree than that.

Yea seems mental that they have just done a 4 year deal, which I assume has been in the works for months but didn’t dip there toe in the water for a tester with Taylor going undisputed.

Maybe couldn’t until entering final 30 days of Matchroom contract.

They couldn’t announce until June either.

Eddie said if Sky wanted it he’d have bid but he was never asked re Taylor fight.

I think this is a desperate grab from Sky to try and keep their British boxing fans subscriptions.

Sky now need to acquire the signature of a decent British promoter.

FW will stay with BT so it wont be him

Will sky once again go down the route of showcasing the bills of varied boxing promoters.... Dennis Hobson? Hayemaker? etc

However, not all of the events will take place in the wee hours.

According to the sources, Top Rank will ramp up putting on events in the U.K. that would air on Sky Sports in prime time. Those events live in the late afternoon/early evening in the United States.

The sources also said that Sky Sports would appoint a U.K.-based promoter to serve as the local promoter for Top Rank’s U.K.-based events. They would include fighters from the U.K. but with Top Rank also planning to have some of the top boxers headline those cards.

FW has dropped a bollock with that one if true - will mean Taylor’s next fight (Catterall more than likely) will be on Sky rather than BT and they’d lose Conlan who could be a good ticket seller for Irish shows.

Excellent news for fans, just means we need to stay subscribed with Sky..
