In the 80s, far more watched it on free TV there.

I think a few things like Gerald McClellan’s tragedy and Mike Tyson’s behaviour turned the majority of the remaining many off.

Thornton also was beating Toney after six rounds (when Toney was considered pound-for-pound #1)

He was a mandated replacement for Tim Littles who was injured. Unbeaten Littles losing his mandatory spot. Eubank took the Littles fight initially which deserves kudos, he was considered the next big thing by some

I went to Khan vs Malignaggi at the garden and he endeared himself to the folks in the arena that night. His hand speed was something else. Worth the entry!

Zab made Floyd look slow FFS.

Khan needed brain power and jaw strength.

Completely agree. I still think Khan at his best, staying switched on for 12 rounds (yeah, I know) could beat Mayweather.

He’d of been a nightmare for Mayweather early doors, but I do see Mayweather adjusting; getting in-close with in-tight hooks. I see Floyd landing hard body shots when possible as an investment, prepared to give away the first five rounds. Aiming to stop Amir late.

Similar to the McGregor fight, coincidentally, at a much much higher level circa 09-10.

Floyd is smart enough to land body shots in and out of clinches, tying those long arms and outsmarting Khan.

Yeah, you’re probably right. And my prediction is based on Khan boxing perfectly for 12 rounds which we haven’t really seen at the top level.
Just playing devils’ advocate; if Khan boxed on the outside in a 22ft ring, jumping in with quick flurries then I can see a Khan win. He’d probably control the first 7 rounds and get chinned in reality.

American fighters aren't even popular in the US anymore.

I could see Khan complaining to the ref a lot and Floyd nailing him as he’s doing so too.

Benn was on NBC, ESPN twice, ABC twice all back to back at peak time live. Main networks from Watson to Barkley fights. Then back on ABC v Gent, then Showtime for the rest of the WBC defenses.

They knew and saw Benn, a lot.

Benn also had a fight on CBS!

NBC v Watson
ESPN v Amparo
CBS v Quinones
ESPN v Williams
ABC famously v DeWitt/Barkley
ABC again v Gent
Then Showtime with Don King for the rest of the WBC fights

Kinda pre-Watson and post-Eubank 1/pre-WBC were leisure centre/small hall periods.

Really full, up and down career did just about the lot in one way or another in less than 10 years!

Boxing is a niche sport now, you need 20 subscriptions and in US pay 80$ for a PPV.
Fury is known, was on Joe Rogan etc.

Popular is hard to define. Americans don't like British fighters.

Hatton was quite popular with Mexican fans.

i think mccallum had too strong a scouse accent for the yanks to ever understand him unfortunetly, made it tougher for him to sell across the pond
