Maybe but he's doing well.
People just wants to see boxing wars and fighters hurting each other. GGG had more than enough of wearing and tearing.
People want to see big names clashing. There're Golovkin, Charlo and Mung, but all of them fight some mismatched nonames.
ya, theyre doing that whole 'they wont fight each other, so people start ranking them by proxy' thing
when charlo handled sergey easier than ggg did, ppl moved mall ahead, but then literally 1 fight later he struggles with a guy who munguia blasted out in 2, so not sure that method really works very well lol
I don't want to take anything from Charlo's win over Chenko but I think the fight with GGG took a lot from Chenko.

Chenko after the fight with Golovkin.

Do people have a problem with this opponent or just the delay between the fight? I see Murata as a solid opponent and I'm glad the fight is (seemingly) made.
Yup, first Murata is a champion and better than Juan Montiel, Liam Williams or Marcus Morrison. GGG vs Murata in Japan it would be a big show.

Agreed.
apollo creed wrote: ↑16 Jul 2021, 06:52Kami and Rolls were more of stay busy fights as Vanes too b/c after Rolls, G fought Chenko- who was a top mw at that time and after Vanes, G fought Canelo.
Agree about Steve Rolls.
apollo creed wrote: ↑16 Jul 2021, 06:52Murata in Japan and Munguia(assuming he'd get a belt) would be more lucrative and winnable fights for a 40 y/o G than Charlo and Andrade.
Agreed to a certain extent, but whilst Murata and Munguia would indeed be lucrative bouts, GGG would probably earn slightly more facing Charlo and Andrade.
apollo creed wrote: ↑16 Jul 2021, 06:52Yeah Charlo and Andrade may be better fighters than Murata and Munguia but they also don't want to risk too much by fighting each other.
Strongly agreed.
I'll even go one further by passionately arguing that none of the top-tier world-rated middleweights are willing to face each other, because they don't want to risk losing their opportunities to receive a mega Canelo lottery-winning sized payday.
The middleweight division is in a terrible state right now because of it.

ok,
Be honest eo, do you feel like GGG doesn't deserve to be in this position
as a boxing star after all the hard road he had? YES or NO?
Of course he does. I also believe he's a dead-cert first-ballot Hall-of-Famer. He's earned my respect and I also feel he deserves to earn decent paydays.
Enough said.

The sincerity of your reluctance to undermine Jermall Charlo’s comfortable victory over Sergiy Derevyanchenko, is pretty clear.
And to be honest, I kind of feel the same way about Daniel Jacobs’ victory over Sergiy Derevyanchenko, because it probably took a lot out of the Ukraine prior to his fight against Golovkin.

Didn't know that Mung fought Montiel. I checked and indeed Mung KO'ed Montiel in 2 rounds in 2017. lol
Charlo should move up at 168 if he has a hard time to make 160. But wait, at 168 is Benavidez who is licking his chops at a fight vs Charlito! lol

To me Chenko's face looked more damaged after he fought G. He took some heavy shots from G.

Montiel was a 154lb-er dropping to 147lbs to face Munguia.
Montiel had also lost the bout immediately preceding the Munguia fight.

If you’re referring to competing at 154lbs and below, then we agree.
But Charo fought Montiel at 160lbs.

at this point in his career golovkin is untouchable.
he should do whatever he wants.
almost 40. unbeaten in the ring. never down or in real danger to take even a knee.
to won fights versus the swollen face of boxing back 2 back (whom i like as a fighter, just despise all the a side sheninigans and rightaway corrupt machinations of his 'handlers' wich in the end will just blemish his great career).
beat everybody fair and square who was put in front of his fists.
rarely took even a backfoot in his whole career xcept to take a breather and come again.
again, he's soon 40 and really got nothing left to proof, xcept how long he can stay on top.
cause that's where he still is. on top. number 1 p4p by a mile.
looking forward to the murata fight.

By the time we’ll see GGG enter the ring against Murata, he would have been inactive for more than a year, whilst having only engaged in two bouts during the course of 31 months.
How much time does he really need “to recover and take care of himself”?
apollo creed wrote: ↑22 Jul 2021, 06:48Dan Rafael reports that Golovkin, 39, and Murata, 35, won’t take interim fights due to the risk of injuries, as well as “not a lot of enthusiasm from DAZN.”
Golovkin will be compelled to face his IBF mandatory challenger immediately after the Murata fight, even though he’s officially engaging in a title unification.
Remember the names Patrick Wojcicki and Esquiva Falcao, because (to the delight of Matchroom, since both guys are Kamil Szeremeta calibre fighters), the winner of their upcoming bout will be facing GGG early next year.

All the top middleweights are ducking each other. And it annoys the hell out of me!
But to be fair, Chris Eubank isn’t a top middleweight, so he should be excluded from this conversation.
That said, Gennadiy’s choosing to take the fight with the most preferable risk vs. reward ratio, because there’s no denying that there are better opponents for him to face (i.e. Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Demetrius Andrade and Jermall Charlo).
Perhaps there’s a logical argument that GGG should remain on the safest path, whilst waiting patiently for his Canelo mega retirement payday (
and let’s face it, who’ll blame him, we’d all do the same thing if we were in his shoes), but I really can’t help disliking cherry-picking... even when old guys pretending to be the best do it!
You answered your own question dude. And you, me and the guy that made my sandwich today would do the same thing. Less commitments means more opportunity when you get in GGG’s rare air of eliteness. He’s fought to get here and deserves every bit of it. Look at all of the top earners in their eras, as they aged, their fight frequency diminished because they are only looking for the fights that solidify their future in the only terms of earnings. Think about it dude, how many more fights does GGG have left? 4 or 5 at most? I don’t think he cares anything about mandatories or staying active nor should he. The last fights of the truly great ones are legacy fights for greatness and for monetary solidity. Any other expectations for a truly great boxer like this is just personal by agitators. Those idiots that have never appreciated a boxer that has been the true definition of what a champion boxer should be.
“Pretending to be the best” comment sealed your fate as a biased observer with his usual tired agenda. Any “fan” of the sport THIS hard up about diminishing an epic Boxer like GGG and his body of work should and probably already has lost all of his integrity to comment on the warriors of this great sport.

In order for GGG to continue claiming ownership of his status as being considered (by the mainstream masses) as the very best 160lb-er on the planet, he needs to prove it.
GGG also explained during his DAZN introduction press-conference that he wanted to compete in the "most important" and "most interesting" fights in boxing. He also said he no longer cared about the belts, partially because of "politics" and partly due to his belief that "sometimes the people with the belts aren't the best boxers."
I’ve quoted his words verbatim.
I'm not sure how you've interpreted GGG's comments, but Gennadiy's fights on DAZN against Derevyanchenko, Szeremeta and Rolls certainly don't reflect those objectives.
I understand the reasons why he’s being risk averse, but doing so also undermines his
CURRENT status in the sport.
In my mind, GGG is a dead-cert first-ballot future Hall-of-Famer, and nothing can change that, but he is no longer the best middleweight on the planet.
And nor is he attempting to fulfil the promises he made when he signed-up with DAZN, because not only is he inactive, but he now almost exclusively competes in business bouts against mediocre opposition (as per four out of five fights spanning the last four years… with his next outing not taking place for another five months).
You can’t seriously pretend that what I’ve written isn’t true.
Time doesn’t stand still.
The pre-summer 2017 version of GGG no longer exists.
