It’s a shame Prescott against Mitchell had to be moved to Newcastle to avoid the the vicious local rivalry and potential crowd trouble.

Carlos Palomino came over here as a huge underdog in the summer of 1976 and destroyed John H. Stracey in 12 rounds to win the WBC welterweight title. A year later, he came back and flattened a brave Dave "Boy" Green in 11 rounds.

Cliff Gilpin had Lloyd Honeyghan on the deck in their fight for the vacant British welterweight title at the Albert Hall back in April 1983. I can still see the look of disbelief in Honeyghan's eyes as he found himself on his back but it was early in the contest and Honeyghan, a man who trained incredibly hard, was able to come back and punch out a bruising decision. Many moons later I bumped into Lloyd and he told me that Gilpin gave him his hardest ever fight.
