Yeah, deserved his mw strap. Beating Andy Lee who was in good form at the time was a solid world level win.

The smw belt was bullshit. Tbf he should have been a career MW anyway.

I figured he would cash out after the Canelo fight. Nowhere else to go, made enough money, why not.

Guy seems a total bellend, but good luck to him, why not retire with your marbles intact and a wad of cash.

He didn't really test himself at all..

How many fights did he actually train hard for?

Saunders, Eddie Hearn, Derek Chisora, Whyte; this stuff and these boys have ruined pro boxing. You don’t even have to train or fight or beat world champions to bank eight figures. Crazy times.

Kirkland Laing and Gary Mason are turning in their graves.

Yer fcuking kidding right? We've got j-paul, ksi and all these goons ruining boxing with their exhibitions and ex-pros skimming off the top, but an ex olympian who win a legit world title is the problem? Guys a bell end but anyone who wins a legit world title has put the graft in and deserves his payday.

Saunders like many nowadays did not deserve the massive pay day for Canelo,he won a vacant title against a complete nobody, defended against nobody, bored everyones tits off, gets his massive pay day and quits, compare that to the ones who left it all on the line for peanuts, jesus even that Aussie girl fought with a badly damaged eye for probably a few grand and didn't even hint at quitting

Please dont think i'm defending him, he's a knob. He used warrens dodgy WBO connections to get the title he knew would get him the payday.

In the grander scheme of things though, he's just a knobhead boxer. We've always had them. I just dont think hes the epitome of all thats wrong with boxing.

Good luck to him, yes he has used boxing more than boxing has used him, but that makes him smart, he is a proper boxer.

I used to like Saunders when he first turned over, thought he came across well, very tidy boxer, his path from domestic level was top drawer, beat a good champ in Lee but since then the opposition, inactivity and mostly his behaviour has plummeted, really unlikable guy, you'd like to think one of these days he'll learn to not be a bully and behave like a gobshite

What I will say about all the terrible things Saunders has done, the fact that got a fine and had to apologize for demonstrating on a punchbag how to beat up a woman was pathetic, clearly a joke and harmed nobody

The through line from Benn/Eubank-Calzaghe, really ended at Froch. And the latest generation of British fans have basically been sold a lie by promoters that the talent-lite Saunders and co line up are heading to that level too. They just aren't/weren't very good.

I'm not sure I'd call Lee a good champion....a champion yes but he did barely defend his belt against Quinlan

I think he was managed brilliantly in hindsight. Nabbed a belt and held on to it until the eventual big payday came. Can’t really argue with that.
