I agree to a certain extent.
I can respect a villainous fighters' pugilistic ability and other attributes that have allowed them to achieve sporting success.
And I may even enjoy watching them compete, though I’ll very likely support their opponent.
But I won’t refrain from criticising fighters for their out-of-ring antics. And nor will I give them a free pass, simply because they’re boxers.

Scary guy at his peak. He was stopping everyone. I assume he’s done now though. Him and GGG were the main cats a few years back.

Yes, it was quite shocking what he did to a good technical boxer like Nathan Cleverly all those years ago.
Whereas GGG is still seen as no pushover and remains feared and avoided by many, Kov's done and dusted.
The human body can only take so much and his has had enough. Because he's still a 'name', Sergey must be prevented from taking too much punishment in future - for his own good.

Is this an example of situational irony?

Great career and fun light heavyweight. I thought he beat Ward. Not such a good guy. In fact probably fair to say he’s a bad guy.

It was a huge pleasure seeing his career soar. He put on some great fights on his way to the #1 LHW in the world. Pretty sure he was very close to the #1 P4P. His fight against Andre Ward was a huge statement, and it's so unfair that he didn't get the decision he deserved.
As for my thoughts now, he's 100% washed up. He can put together some solid fights, but he's nowhere near what he used to be. Unfair that we never saw him fight against his rival, Beterbiev. Might've been for the best because I don't think their primes overlapped. When the fight was on the table, Beterbiev was still the dude suffering a lot of injuries and getting dropped by Jeff Page.
