What's your routine for staying up for fights
Re: What's your routine for staying up for fights
Shrooms will apparently keep you up way past your bedtime, and may even improve the undercard

I'm based in Norway so a Vegas ring walk can be close to 7am.
I'll try to sleep about 1 am after the Liverpool card. Get up at 5.30am and have a cup of hash tea.
It'll kick in about ring walk time and enhance the event, more intense
Back to bed about 8am and sleep til midday.
Nice

Set the alarm and get an early night. Can’t stay up any more , end up too hammered and it’s all a blur by main event time.

Thing is, in the UK, we get our main events between 10-11pm..MasterG wrote: ↑08 Oct 2021, 14:27Bollox to that not staying up till that hour.peter barlow wrote: ↑08 Oct 2021, 14:13Haven't came across proper confirmation for ringwalk seems between 4 and 5amMasterG wrote: ↑08 Oct 2021, 12:47 Not sure what time the main event is in the UK so not sure if I'll stay up or put the alarm on for the big fight.
The Mrs is on nights so I'm in no rush to go to bed. I'll probably stay up for it all, have a few beers and some gin, maybe a supermarket pizza or something maybe an Indian takeaway.
I didn't think Vegas was 8 hours behind GMT
In Vegas, main events are usually after 11. Main card starts at 9pm ET
There’s a 10 rounder and two 12 rounders before the main event. All HW’s unless they’re looking for them to end early. They are evenly matched fights.

my routine will be going to sleep and watching it on Sunday

Was gonna watch the 3 euro bills crash midnight then up at 7/8 & see if I can tune into an ESPN replay of the whole card …usually that happens around 7/8…but think I’ll play it safe & buy the BT show - then phone off & watch whole card as live, and spin through the dross.
Used to stay up but too gruelling these days lol

In the past i'd have got some racket in, got some mates round and got stuck in, thing is I'd often end so clattered I'd barely be able to concentrate on the fight, on one occasion I passed out and woke up to the judges decision, spoiling it entirely. I seem to recall a fight breaking out in my living room on another.
These days I just can't do it, aside from special occasions, and I don't see this being worth it. I expect a Fury blowout pretty early.

I'd go with spirits mate, easier to stay awake.peter barlow wrote: ↑08 Oct 2021, 11:36 Tomorrow night is the first I'm attempting to stay up for in a couple years. I used to do it regular in Box-nation days. Do you have any routine to help stay up?
I'm not an early riser so getting up for 4am isn't an option. I guess I'll try use tea and coffee to keep me up. Beer wise I usually drink Guinness but think I'll go with lager this time a bit lighter which may help.
With ringwalks at 4 or 5am it's a tough one I mite only start drinking for the Smith Fowler fight or after. Food wise I'm unsure yet.
Re: What's your routine for staying up for fights
I stay up late Thursday and Friday get really tired and then have a long afternoon nap on Saturday
I woke up 1/2 hr a go.
Now I just stay up.

Re: What's your routine for staying up for fights
Back in the day, I used to love all the buildup, undercard, etc. Could stay up the whole way through with no issues at all.
Sadly, I'm very much a casual fan nowadays, though, so don't have the same enthusiasm for watching anything other than the main event and perhaps a bit of the undercard, depending on who's fighting.
I live in Japan these days, though, which is 16 hours ahead of Vegas, which works out well for me. Main event should be around 1 or 2pm, I think.

Shrooms aint no good for boxing. A nice bifta or hash tea is the way to go.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑09 Oct 2021, 12:15They certainly keep you going, but not sure I'd want to watch boxing on mushies.

Same here, as I don't follow it as assiduously I don't really know a lot of the undercard fighters any more. Time was when there were very few fighters at contender level I didn't know, aside from the lowest weight classes, but not any more.AlexY2K4 wrote: ↑09 Oct 2021, 12:32 Back in the day, I used to love all the buildup, undercard, etc. Could stay up the whole way through with no issues at all.

I used to stay up right through the night years ago, quite often there would be a uk show and then a vegas show afterwards, usually when they were on mainstream telly or the early days of sky/eurosport etc.Nowadays I have to go to bed and get up about 4am unless there is a special undercard then I may get up earlier.

Had an underwhelming tikka masala there. Holding off as long as possible for the cans. Probably 10pm

Watched Smith-Fowler card with a few drinks. Now gonna walk for 30 mins in the Sheffield chill to my mate who has the huge TV screen. That should help. Plus I'm interested in the undercard, so should be ok.

Watch excellent UK card and become so incensed by Paul Smith’s behaviour that the adrenaline tides me through quite easily to 4am and beyond

I don't think I've managed to stay up for a fight since Mayweather and Hatton. I'm giving it me best shot but even finishing this post is a challenge
