Who Hughie fights isn’t going to be the crux of whether this is PPV or not. Eubank thinks he’s a massive star so will be wanting to be paid extremely well to fight Williams and Williams will likely be wanting 6 figures too.

You throw in the other fighters being lined up for it and it makes me think they’re looking at PPV. Hopefully I’m wrong.

If sky attempt a Eubank vs Williams PPV supported by hughie in a lesser fight, and two women in tune-ups/set up fights..... Geezes christ that would take some balls. IF that is the case id like to change my PPV prediction to 10 buys. One for each fighters family to gather round and watch. Even then they will feel like they arnt getting value.

Surely though there must be some quality control, I mean just because Eubank demands massive money shouldn't mean he gets everything he wants.

He already got a terrible opponent in a tune up and probably decent wedge too. There isn't any PPV fight or fighter even mentioned in this thread. Sky are just stumbling along now and look like they want to PPV everything.

I mean Eubank and 2 women's fights against tomato cans as a PPV, that's probably the worst PPV they've ever attempted by quite a distance? Not a good sign of things to come from Sky

Claressa Shields Expected To Face Ema Kozin 12/11 As Part Of Doubleheader With Marshall

Claressa Shields is expected to make a mandated middleweight championship defense in her return to a boxing ring December 11.

Boxing Scene has learned that Shields intends to defend her WBC 160-pound title against Ema Kozin in a doubleheader that’ll also feature rival Savannah Marshall against an opponent to be chosen. Shields and Marshall likely will meet sometime in the spring if they win their upcoming matches in Birmingham, England.

We already know what the vision is here ..more shows padded out with women's fights in the name of diversity !!

I think at the moment Sky miss Eddie and Eddie misses Sky.

The 2 shows so far have been distinctly average (but I’ve still watched them) and there isn’t one U.K. fight currently confirmed that I’m looking forward to.

Then having the Top Rank shows is great though for hardcore fans but in reality few people will actually watch them.

Sky are spending a lot of money pushing the new boxing. They’re spending a load of money on digital advertising (particularly Facebook) pushing the fights and fighters and are putting the shows on as many platforms as they can (YouTube, Showcase, Main Event etc.). It’ll get to a point where the higher ups will expect a return for that money spent which wasn’t being spent when they were with Matchroom, hence why they’ll probably be keen to get on PPV fairly quickly.

Matchroom are clearly missing the Sky hype machine. DAZN/Eddie can only do so and whilst they’re giving fairly good shows, they are struggling to get them pushed outside of the boxing bubble. The Whyte show in a couple of weeks would have sold more tickets (it’s not doing badly but won’t get close to selling out) and be more known about if they had the Sky push behind it.

I’m glad Sky have stuck with boxing but they need more from Boxxer re:matchmaking and we need to hope Sky don’t get greedy and rush unworthy PPVs.

They're not even treading water, and talk of future improvements is pie in the sky. Boxing on SKY is falling deeper and deeper into the murky waters of PPV. It's the only way they can turn a profit on boxing.

Boxing may be the only sport they make a direct profit on with PPV. They make big profits overall but why does boxing need to make additional money for them over other sports?

I don’t mind/disagree with PPVs that can generate 300k+ buys but there’s no point doing it if it’s pretty clear it’ll do less than that.

Re: the money not being available for quality Saturday night fight nights - I’m sure it is there. We’re not asking for massive names on every show - just a few competitive fights, ideally between boxers have the ability and will to win them. They had one with Rea/Smith but just chose to keep it away from the main channels for some reason.

I listened to a couple of interviews last night. Adam Smith was saying that he doesn’t believe Williams/Eubank is a PPV fight (fair play in fairness) and that it should be on regular Sky Sports whilst Kalle Sauerland was intimating that it could be a PPV fight with a decent build up.

Surely as Adam holds the purse strings it can’t be on PPV now he’s said that?

He did not go as far as saying it WILL NOT be on PPV. I guess a lot will depend on how much Williams and Eubank will demand in terms of wages. I think Adam is risking having egg on his face though if it ends up on SBO - so my feeling is that if Wasserman pay too much to get it done - then we might be looking at a BT Sport Box Office event?

If this fight does go end up on normal Sky its been very very naughty of Eddie to be insinuating it is on SBO in all of his interviews..... the words "mind your business" spring to mind.

Is it ultimately his decision whether the fight ends up on PPV or not? Despite him being head of boxing at Sky, I think those decisions are above his pay grade.

Won’t be on BT - will be a sure fire way to piss of Sky straight away and BT are rife with PPVs. Still got Canelo and Tommy Fury to come before the end of the year I think.

Agree it depends on demands. They’ve already announced Claressa and Savannah and I wouldn’t have thought Claressa will be less than £100k.

They may be trying to get it on normal Sky to one up Eddie. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Matchroom look as though they’re having a show on December 11th too now with Connor Benn and Katie Taylor so will be more of a reason for Sky to avoid PPV.

He’ll be involved in the decisions and I think he’s probably heavily involved with deciding whether they should finance a show that would cost significantly more than a regular Saturday night fight night. It may we’ll need further approval though.

How many buys is a success for Sky Box office these days?

Considering:
- This isn't AJ Fury Whyte Chisora or Heavyweights

- The PPV price point has increased a lot in recent years

- Widespread availability of streaming alternatives

- Ongoing pandemic

- Low fan interest for either of the muted PPVs

- Very little interest in women's boxing among hardcore or casual fans in general much less PPV events

There isn't any PPV names on Sky roster, unless they built up Josh Taylor into a Froch like figure.

Haven't seen the interview yet but Fast Car apparently pitching a Conor Benn/Katie Taylor double header for the same date now
