Another cherry picked overmatched opponent. Someone as limited as Bellew knocked this guy out years ago.
Since he lost to GGG i think Canelo has only fought one live opponent - Jacobs.
Callum Smith was live, Canelo made it look easy and BJS was also a live opponent.
Nothing wrong with those two.

I had a hunch that will be his next step. I thought I would get laughed off this forum - but I have a sneaky feeling Canelo might not just settle at Cruiserweight. There is a pretty small heavyweight champion currently - now that would be something!
Still think the likes of Charlo / Andrade and GGG are more testing than Makabu.

Canelo wants no part of Usyk

I agree, Usyk is about as good a shot as he's ever going to get at fighting a heavyweight he might be able to live with.
I don't think he can beat Usyk, but he might be competitive as Usyk wasn't a big puncher even at cruiser, and let's face it, Canelo has one hell of a chin.
I'm calling it now, if Usyk is still champ if and when Canelo wins a title at Cruiser, he will try and make the fight. He can then claim to have been the first fighter to win belts from 154 to heavyweight.

I can see him picking up a belt at cruiser, then maybe angling for a tilt at heavy if Usyk is champ.
He would have nothing to lose, and if he somehow pulled off an improbable win, then he's made history, again.
Usyk would be too big for him; height and size wise - Usyk is a solid 200/207lb guy. Canelo would get destroyed.
Benavides is the next fight we need to see Canelo in with. If he decides he wants to go higher, then Bivol or Beterbiev are the obvious choices.

He'll need some particularly tasty Mexican beef to get past Usyk.

some dudes on here used to say ward would beat usyk, could canelly do it
(i seriously doubt it, apart from size usyk can box the style canelo dislikes most)

even though he'd be moving up, im kinda on board with canelo by stoppage. makabus chin is not too reliable and ive seen him do jigs from seemingly inoccous looking shots. i know canelo aint no cruiser, but i bet you he'd find enough mexi beef to still be a tank even in the 180-190s

Makubu is past his best, not great and a small cruiserweight - it's skilled cherry-picking.
But still..... A CRUISERWEIGHT !

I disagree ruthless. Smith was tight at the weight , only had a 4 or 5 week camp and had lost to John Ryder in his previous fight. His only world class opponent prior to Canelo had been a one armed George Groves.
Saunders’ last world class opponent was in 2017 since when he’d been very inactive hence his fattening up to 168 - he’s never a super mid.
Both fights were strolls in the park for Canelo

The same Usyk who KOd Bellew, got Chisora's attention and wobbled Joshua at times?
It would never happen. Usyk has very good boxing skills .. and would simply be too big and strong for any guy naturally 168lb or less.
Canelo wears guys down - that would not happen against Usyk .. or Beterbiev, hence the other swerve.

He picked Makabu like he picked Kovalev, acknowledging that it's the most vulnerable champion at his weight.

I agree with all the comments- even though they contradict!
After winning the cruiser then he will deffo want to go for heavyweight - fighting a 6 foot 9 Fury is surely not an option and he therefore goes for the smallest champion - although I think that Usyk would beat him (because he is a smaller heavyweight with skills and mobility- it won't be like Haye fighting that 8 foot giant who moved at 1 mile an hour)

Your just mental. If they were the same size it would be a great match. Usyk is a better boxer than most of the people canelo has faced. Plus he is 30+ lbs heavier, can take a shot, and wont be ground down.. Usyk would bully him and stop him.

but on the other hand, keep in mind when we talk about usyk being a smaller hw canelo could fight, it's still a guy 8 inches taller than him, with an 8 inch reach advantage, and a big natural size advantage.
usyk has more size on canelo than fury, aj, , etc have on usyk. plus dude can box, and in a style canelo has issues with. but hell let's see it , some oldschool sam langford sh!t

i do agree with that. a 6'3 220 south paw with mobility and skillz, he's the type of boxer who gives canelo problems, with a big size advantage

what would Canelo have come in the ring against Kovalev at- about 190-95? so he'd have to give away about 25lbs to a taller man... no way he can win and beat this giant, just too big for him..... hmmm... this all sounds familiar
it would create interest, the pre fight with Usyk not giving any fcvks, Canelo takes on the giant I'd fkin love it, I don't give a fck if it's
actually a fair matchup I'd fkin pay £50 to watch it
