Joppy hurt Eastman a few times in their fight, he's no puncher. The more I think about this fight the more I see Hopkins hurting Eastman early on, he goest into his shell and gets stopped down the stretch. I hope I am wrong but just cant see a way for Eastman to win other than going toe to toe and hoping something in the old man gives!

No way can i see Eastman getting stopped...still this is building up to be a great fight and with Witter-N'dou on the undercard as well!!!!

Eastman is going to have to show something he has in reserve, the last time he had to pick the pace up against Joppy he either didn't or couldn't do it.

He's got to start out fast with plenty of movement, let Hopkins know he's in a fight, and not let Hopkins dictate the pace

I don't think Hopkins has changed that much, I just heard a piece on the radio about Hopkins where they said he still goes to bed at 8 every night and gets up at 4.30 every day to start training regardless of whether he has an upcoming fight. I've read he maintains something like 2% bodyfat. I'm not saying Eastman has no chance in fact I've had some money on him on the off chance. I don't think you can expect Hopkins to come in out of shape or unfocussed, he's just not that kind of fighter.

Someone onn Boxrecpoosted that Hopkins said he no longer runs at 4.30 -he now tuns at 6.

No matter what anyone says.

Going from a career best $250,000.00
Then fighting a tournament and making $2m then DLH and getting $10m - will change anyne - especially a 40 year old who has done it all.

Hpoward hads not EARNED yet.

He will after Sunday morning

Yes, but the same was true before he fought Joppy, and he lost that one. That was his chance to really make it big, had he won that one, he could have had a defence or two and then fought Bhop and made a lot more than he's getting now.

Bernard is still hungry. And that comment about him getting up at 6.30 rather than 4 was a joke at a press conference.

I don't believe for a moment that Bernard isn't totally focussed. He has two or three more big fights. Winky, Jermaine Taylor and then Trinidad and possibly a battle with Johnson.

If he wins those four, I think he will go down as the greatest middleweight champion of all time. I certainly think there would be a fair case for saying so anyhow. He'll become the middleweight version of Joe Louis, with perhaps a better level of opposition.

Eastman is better equiped to beat Hopkins in a war than Trinidad.

I dare say that Trinidad hits as hard as Eastman, if not harder, and he lands a lot more clean punches too. I doubt very much if Eastman would have twatted the shit out of Mayorga like that, and compare their bouts against Cheriffi, Trinidad went through him like soft shite, Howard had to work for it.

The only areas I would say Eastman is better is that he has better defensive skills and a better chin. Everything else, Tito does better.

Do you honestly think he has a better chin than Hopkins?

Eastmans chin is good , but has it stood up to Roy Jones jnr, Glen johnson, Trinidad, Antwun Echols, De la Hoya, I see Hopkins as having the stronger proven chin here

No, Joppy just LOOKED slick compared to Eastman, he didn't look too fornicating slick when he got bumraped by Trinidad and annihilated by Hopkins. If he was so slick then how come he couldn't stop getting pummelled by Trinidad? Hopkins by contrast hardly took a flush shot the whole fight.

You're talking utter cobblers.

this is from an interview with Hopkins, doesn't sound like he's been taking Eastman easy

What are your expectations going into the upcoming Howard Eastman fight on February 19th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles?

“I am going to go in there and be Bernard. I will remove any thoughts from Eastman’s mind that he can win the fight so that in his mind he is only trying to survive. I will force my will and demeanor upon him. I plan to counter him mentally and physically.”

Do you have any fear of a letdown after the Oscar De La Hoya fight?

“All I need to think about is 20 consecutive title defenses. No other fighters have accomplished this and there will be no letdown. It is about history. I am more motivated for this fight than the Oscar fight because many people expected me beat Oscar.

This fight is important to me because this is the year I set out to be the greatest of my career. This fight will lead to 2 pay-per-view fights back to back for Bernard Hopkins. I cannot tell you who they are but this is what motivates me along with the 20 consecutive title defenses.”

any perdictions?

“If Eastman thinks he can get me in 5 rounds then I will get him in 4. He cannot fight when he is back-peddling. I am prepared to chase him. I am prepared to fight him. I am prepared to go old school with him. Whatever he has to bring to the table I am sure I have seen it before.”

I cant understand this notion everyone seems to have "No way Eastman gets stopped" that is utter bollocks there is every chance he will get stopped late. Hopkins is not a big one shot hitter but he hits hard enough and will land plenty. Eastman has shown a good chin so far but against whom? I swear Joppy hurt him thats why Eastman stood off, dont tell me he was showboating on purpose that is utter nonsense.

These guys are leagues apart, if the middleweight division wasnt so shocking Eastman would barely make top 10.

His best win is over McCracken who was overrated himself, he was never a top middleweight sorry and he was on the slide when Eastman beat him. How long ago was that though?

Agree, Hopkins isn't the biggest hitter, but i see him stopping Eastman late on.

Eastman needs to essentially run to stand any kind of a chance of winning the title - stick and move. Eastman has to go to war with Hopkins. Try and fight at a high pace, start banging that old body and muscle that old guy around. I don't think he could outbox Hopkins. He fights like that and he will forever regret not going for it and leaving it all in the ring. Eastman needs to show him no respect, just go out and beat him up remembering how old he is. He must NOT let Hopkins dictate the pace. I'd be amazed if Hopkins was able to hurt Howard. I don't think he can. I want to see Howard come flying out of the traps and try to take Hopkins head off. I'd be interested to see Hopkins reaction to a body attack as well. It could be the key to stopping him.

Joppy was slick - bit a knockout punch sometimes changes that

Bernard is a bully and uses strength and skills.

Next you will tell me Pernell Whiatter was a KO Artist.

Mercado - Allen - 1 - just 2 fights you need to see and tell me Bhop is SLICK!.

Lord have mercy - have you EVER seen a Hopkinf fight ?

Slick - see Joppy
Bruise See Hopkins. He did counter punch Trinidasd = but his style is basically to attack!

You don't know your arse from your elbow mate. Being slick is nothing to do with whether you are an attacking or back foot fighter.

Example: Roberto Duran was an attacking fighter, but was one of the slickest inside fighters you will ever see.

Andrew 'Six Heads' Lewis was a defensive fighter with flashy skills and fast wheels, however, slick he wasn't because he got the shite beaten out of him by Margarito.

Don Curry, the same, fast, flashy, slick...no. McCallum, slower, methodical, workmanlike, slick, yes.

Hopkins can do a bit of everything. He tailors his style to get the job done. Against DLH, a faster fighter with better handspeed and movement, he actually outboxed him, forcing Oscar to come into range to score points, and then dissected him, that's the definition of slick.

You are confusing slick for flash. Joppy was never that slick, just a mover, that's not the same thing.

Just saw the pictures of the press conference. One thing flashed through my mind, HONEYGAN/CURRY

Not saying the result will be the same, but the "unheralded European" against the "supremely talented yank" bit brought back a lot of memories of going to the "brawl on the Boardwalk"

Who knows? Just hope Eastman gives it his best shot
