Decent fight, but i had McGregor a clear winner

Was it just the red judging??

These fights needs 3 judges.

I only heard 95-95 announced, so that could be the case.

Ruiz was good - always competitive - but he was almost completely reactive.

Nice sharp opener from Grant Dennis.

Dignum has started the process of trying to slow down Dennis.

Effective 3rd round from Dennis.

Dignum cut and frustrated with Dennis' movement.

Ref's going to have to warn Dennis for holding, after throwing the surprise right hand.

Excellent 6th round from Dignum....got close, unloaded and Dennis folded.

Dennis clearly wanted out by the 2nd knock down and seemed to fake the stumbles when got to his feet, but the referee let him go on.

Tried to stay in there but Dignum had the bit between his teeth and wasn't going to him off the hook.

What a swallow job Dennis is

Dennis was moving a huge amount early but it wasn't sustainable, Dignum stayed patient and began to find Dennis more frequently despite a lot of holding, didn't let up after the first KD and finished the job. Decent enough performance from Danny.

To be fair, Dennis was trying to stay in there after the 2nd knockdown, but did seem to want out during the 2nd knockdown.

Christ ! Dignum is rated 4th in the world by the WBO

He would probably get sparked by British champion Felix Cash.

The job of a referee is to police a fight, not score it.

Scottish bantamweight Lee McGregor was held to a controversial 10-round draw by Argentina’s Diego Ruiz at the York Hall in London on Friday. The lone scorer was referee Kieran McCann – who had it 95-95 – and his numbers were not popular.

McGregor, who entered as The Ring’s No. 10 rated bantamweight, was the aggressor throughout. He threw more, landed more, and varied up his attack, and while Ruiz battled back gamely, more often than not, he came off second-best in the exchanges.

The Edinburgh man boxed very well in the opening round. The uppercut was landing solidly and McGregor also made a real target of the body. However, after sampling the power coming his way, Ruiz sensed that McGregor couldn’t hurt him and began to let his hands go.

The home fighter led and the visitor immediately responded. That was the pattern all the way, but Ruiz was rarely in charge.

It wasn’t vintage McGregor by any means. He looked bored and was simply going through the motions, which gave Ruiz a lot of counter punching opportunities. The Argentinian enjoyed some significant success in the middle rounds, but McGregor regained control and appeared to have posted a comfortable enough points win.

Had there been three judges, it’s highly unlikely that McGregor (11-0-1, 9 knockouts) would now have a blemish on his otherwise perfect record. The BBBoC might want to review the protocol of having the third man in the ring score a fight. If you’re distracted by looking out for fouls and infringements, how can you realistically judge a bout properly?

The bout was contested at 122 pounds. McGregor, 25, will return to bantamweight for bigger game.

The 27-year-old Ruiz is now 23-4-1 (12 KOs).



In middleweight action, Essex-based southpaw Danny Dignum scored a sixth-round stoppage of Grant Dennis. The official time of the stoppage was 2:31.

Dennis enjoyed some success off the backfoot, but he lacked the firepower to discourage Dignum from marching forward. The damage was beginning to mount early in the sixth when a left uppercut forced Dennis to take a knee. Two more knockdowns forced referee Bob Williams to halt the action, and while a bloodied Dennis protested, the fight was only going one way.

Dignum, 29, improves to 14-1 (8 KOs). The 38-year-old Dennis falls to 17-4 (3 KOs).

Before last night, McGregor was talking bout how he'd welcome a Inoue fight.

McGregor won that fight. Ruiz was competitive the whole way, but lost. A poor decision.

McGregor's ambition can't be faulted. Just look what's he achieved and who he's been prepared to fight. British, Commonwealth & European champion with a successful first defence under his belt and boxing good international opposition....in 12 fights !

Of course he'd welcome the fight, anyone would. He'd think he can win as well, why not.

I'm not sure "anyone" would welcome an Inoue fight McGregor would, although he may wish to reassess after last night. He won the fight IMO, but it wasn't a performance that would strike the slightest bit of concern in Inoue.

I don't doubt the referee's honesty that in his view it was a draw, it was just a bad verdict IMO.

Possibly, but three judges still turn in unpopular decisions. I guess it's better scoring from outside the ring without the distraction of having to referee as well.

I think it was Richie Davies who said he was a better referee when he didn't have to score the fight as well.

kieran mccann also had mckenna beating mimoune in a total robbery, which he judged from ringside, he may just not be very good whether he's also reffing or not

i remember ohara davies was doing commentary for that fight. the tv dudes and ohara had it like 98-92 for mimmy and the whole discussion was alreedy about how the davies-mimoune final would go. and of course, the ref was in disbelief when the result was announced and had to double check with the mc that the scores had been read correctly

It's possibly the worst robbery of all time. There have been some outrageous robberies but this one was just unbelievable. Sad to see Mimoune hasn't fought since. Boxing really is a filthy game. One thing I never understand is how the fighters don't end up attacking the judges/refs when they blatantly rob them like this. It would just be extremely satisfying to see some fat corrupt judge getting sparked out cold by a fighter he's just robbed.
