The only way the MMA guy stands a chances if he clenches throughout the entire thing and does dirty boxing tactics. Otherwise the moment Pulev lands the MMA guy is going to be knocked all over the place. The power difference between MMA guys and boxers is pretty insane as well as punch resistance.
I don't think the power difference is great at all, nor is the punch resistance. It's the regular boxing fundamentals that are the big difference.
The MMA guys are fighting with very light gloves, so of course they get rocked pretty easily. JDS has power equal to Pulev any day, but he's not a strictly trained puncher, so Pulev's effective power is greater for most punches, especially jabs and setups.
MMA guys also lack defensive fundamentals for boxing, since their defensive background includes avoiding kicks and takedowns. They're not used to being able to commit to boxing defense, so they're never really trained the fundamentals like a career boxer.
They're not used to the big gloves, either, how to land effectively with them and use them to guard. Or how to use the ropes in a boxing sense.
In many ways this is the best boxer vs. MMA comparison we've had yet. Mir isn't a good boxer by any standard, Jake Paul isn't a ranked boxer, Ben Askren was considered a horrendous boxer even by MMA standards, Holyfield was 10 years retired. This fight is between a currently ranked boxer and a guy who was pretty high level with his hands by MMA standards, and the ages are pretty similar. Belfort vs. Chad Dawson is another more-or-less direct MMA vs. boxer comparison, or at least as close as we've had yet.
