I don't think the quality of MMA is having much affect on boxing.

The opportunity for youngsters to pursue other activities has increased greatly, boxing is competing with many other sports/hobbies for their attention in those formative years.

Also, the ridiculous politics of the pro game, and the removal of it from terrestrial tv to (often) obscure satellite channels, has led to boxing not being on many people's radar.

It's a numbers game, if you reduce the number of kids taking up the sport, it will affect the number of quality fighters having a pro career.

At least boxing only ruins the hands, elbows and shoulders.

A lot of new money has flowed into York which has increased the price of living in the city. This has resulted in a significant increase in poverty amongst those whose families have been in York for generations. Couple this with the fact it's a very white city and white working class lads have really struggled everywhere in the last 20 years or so makes a fertile recruiting ground for boxing gyms. When you also include the travelling lads in the area, who tend to be poor, white and game it's a double whammy.

OK this wasnt ment to be that literal. Point is they will figure it out. Mabey todlers will be choking out full grown men, i dont know what i do know is eventualy those lil 3 year old boxers hitting combos on the pads, well half them will be doing MMA.

I know what you mean, probably more like 5% though. Most kids with ridiculously pushy parents walk away from sport and resent them for it for life. I know I do anyway.

There's always been poverty here. My area has been overrun with students living in people who cashed in on the right to buy's house's. TH if you're reading Ned.
