No promoter gives away their best fighter ,give Hennessy some credit ,what he acheived at the weekend has surpassed anything FW has done in the last 2-3 years.
When did FW ever put Joe Cal in with any legitimate world champion let alone an undisputed 1,never.Hatton after years of boxing has beens will get his chance and he will get flattened,at least Eastmen aquitted himself well.
Witter came through the test, after years of being slagged off by Warren.It would be good for British Boxing if Hatton did come through in June and I would never like to see the kid to get hurt because he is a decent enough kid,but I just cant see him winning.

What Hennessy 'did at the weekened' was more manager/agent than promoter, in my opinion.

He's got Junior and Froch a deal with an American promoter. Surely that's what a manager does, isn't it?

Hennessy signed the deal with GBP to have Froch and Witter on their cards in the US. Nothing wrong with that dont see why you have a problem with it. Unlike our good friend allegedly Hennessy is putting his fighters first for once, acting more as manager than promoter in this case. Allegedly merely abuses his position as manager and promoter by putting on backyard mismatches.

That's what I mean. Surely he's acting more as a manager than promoter now? Nothing wrong with that of course; I just can't understand people calling him "the best promoter in the country". Maybe the best manager, but not promoter. Oscar was/is the promoter wasn't/isn't he?

For years its been said that more British fighters should travel overseas and challenge the Americans etc for the genuine titles. I think this is certainly a step in the right direction. I also feel that in the long term it is a great way to get the TV companies involved again. I feel they have only pulled out of boxing until the quality picks up again. (This is just my opinion of course)

Wasn't Witter on a fight-by-fight deal anyhow wasn't he, or had that changed.

Whether he is a promoter or manager/agent, he's managed to get his fighters on TV stateside, or at least will be doing.

Yes Hennessy's done a great job for his fighter lately: anyone who gives FW a bit of comp gets my vote.

As for Hearn on Bravo..........not sure what to make of that - you could probably fit the total viewers in a phone box.

Strange there's still no mention of Witter on the Hennessy's website if all is good.

As WBC No. 1 (at least I think Witter is No. 1), Gatti has to be the priority. Get him a shot at Gatti in the same year as Hatton gets Tszyu. Ideally, before.

Very much so. Main Events, who promote Gatti, and Oscar De La Hoya, who promote (I won't say it), are like chalk and cheese, like Warren to Hennessy.
Ah, Mick Hennessy. Those were the days....

If Witter fights Gatti with ample notice I'll have a wager with anybody that Witter wins. As I have said before they've done wonders recycling Gatti again but he's not operating at the top level really.

Before you jump on my back Witter hasnt either but is on the up, Gatti is not as good as he was and has been battered from pillar to post in several fights. He's ripe for the taking by any of the top guys at 140.

This is an interesting thread. It's all about what you see as the Promoter's role. I'm no fan of FW, but lets look at the Hatton Facts:

1) The guy has already made enough money to retire on with almost ZERO risk of losing a fight to date.
2) Now has a fight with his weight's top fighter, (a P4P legend), in his OWN backyard, while still in his prime.

I don't think Hatton wins, but in terms of Promoting, it not a bad story.
Fighting the P4P champ in your OWN yard...that's actually quite impressive and something I thought was not on the cards.

Henessey....has he ever financially secured one of his fighters? He got applauded for providing the fans with a good nights entertainment when he put Walker in with Karmazin, but is Walker now laughing all the way to the bank?

As it goes, I think Mick has done a great Job this time round. BOTH for his fighters and the fans. (but so has FW, so their pretty even to date).

Their is merit in both approaches. Just more frustration for the fans with FW's approach. FW has not been ablew to secure US exposure for his fighters...but Mick wouldn't be able to carve out a living for the likes of Anthony Farnell. Slight different skills.

I would agree with that.

Like it or not, Frank's fighters are wealthy men, at least those who are his mainstay's, Calzaghe, Hatton and Harrison.

Hennessy is still in early days, and I doubt either he or his fighters are teeming with money yet, but they have pulled a massive coup off in getting the deal with Golden boy. Oscar's a smart man, and very rich, he has the clout and the good will to become a very very big promoter.

I hope both promoters do well, the more competition there is in the marketplace, the better for the fans. With Hobson also securing world title shots for Woods, things are looking up a bit for British boxing.

I will be surprised if we many genuine belt holders in the next couple of years, but there you have it at least they are being contested by British fighters.
