Murata is on the same talent level as Munguia, Charlito and Andrade with the only mention that Murata is a boxing star and he is selling big time in his country, Japan! :OhYes:
So you’re basically saying that any individual only needs to be matched against Gennadiy Golovkin to have their status in the sport automatically elevated above the likes of Munguia, Charlo and Andrade, even if they’ve never won a legitimate world title fight, have never defeated a legitimate current or former world champion, have only won two fights within the last four years and having also been inactive for the last 28 months?

For the record, I’m not criticising GGG... and I actually hope he wins his next outing. Instead, all I’m doing is stating the obvious, because Ryota Murata is not a good fighter.

There’s no point in pretending he’s something that he clearly isn’t, simply because GGG is facing him.

Ryota Murata hasn’t won anything notable within the last decade.

He was elevated to the super WBA world middleweight titleholder OUTSIDE the ring.

He has never won a legitimate world title fight.

He has never beaten a legitimate former or current world champion.

He’s been inactive for the last 28 months.

He’s only won two fights within the last four years.

He’s been competing as a pro for almost nine years and his resume is quite weak.

It’s challenging to evaluate how poor the current iteration of Ryota Murata really is, because he hasn’t accomplished anything notable in the paid ranks within the last decade, he has been inactive for the last 28 months and has only won two fights within the last four years.

Ryota Murata’s resume is very weak and he was defeated by the only two moderately decent names he faced (i.e. Rob Brant and Hassan N’Dam).

Of course, he deserves a certain amount of kudos for avenging those losses, but let’s not pretend that Brant and N’Dam are better fighters than they really are, shall we?

Both of those guys were stopped within eight rounds last year by the apparently avoided Zhanibek Alimkhanuly.

Put it this way, when the 47 year old Sergio Martinez announced his comeback, he said that he was targeting a title shot against Ryota Murata, because he didn’t feel ready for the other titleholders.

So what does that tell you?

Anyway, to answer your question, Ryota Murata is a middleweight, whereas Liam Smith is a 154lb-er and John Ryder being a 168lb-er.

So I'm not sure why you'd want to compare three fighters competing in three different weight classes?

The fact that both Brits compete regularly and are a few years younger than Murata, means I’d favour Smith and Ryder to defeat the Japanese fighter.

This is because I feel that a combination of age and inactivity adversely affects a veteran fighters’ athleticism and pugilistic ability.

Don’t you agree?

In terms of the GGG-Murata bout itself, by the 9th April:

• It would have taken a combined total of six years and ten months for both men to have scored their most recent two wins apiece.
• Both men will have a combined total age of 76 years and three months.

Both of those stats are worse than the fighters that participated in the 1990 bout between Foreman and Cooney, which was then dubbed by critics as the two old “Geezers at Caesars”.

Does anybody seriously believe that DAZN and GGG Promotions would be willing to proceed with the Golovkin-Murata bout if there was a reasonable chance the Japanese fighter could defy the betting odds to score an upset that would scupper September’s highly-lucrative Canelo rematch?

The answer is a definite no. DAZN and GGG both feel the outcome of the Murata fight is a foregone conclusion. There’s far too much money riding on a decisive victory for Golovkin.

100% GGG and his team are focused on the money fight after this one, and they are professional enough not to overlook Murata.
If there has been a steeper decline in the 14 months since his last fight, we will have to see.

I agree. :TU:

DAZN and GGG Promotions have picked Murata to make Golovkin look good.

It’s a showcase fight to convince the masses into believing that Gennadiy “still has it”, which will make September’s Canelo PPV easier to sell to DAZN’s mainstream audience.

Golovkin is professional enough to realise he has to fulfil his obligation, which is to be at his best against Murata, in order to secure a decisive victory and look good in the process.

The detractors are coming out, trying to denigrate a unification fight before it happens. If only Mall Charlo had the courage to do the same with Andrade. Murata wasn't "chosen to make GGG look good, he happens to hold one of the belts.

This is the problem here, whilst some of us are unhappy that more potentially great fights are not being made there are also others who seem to be unhappy that that even some good ones are.

No doubt they must feel frustrated that better matchups aren't being made, even if they don't know exactly how to bring them about.

Or perhaps this is not really a sport but merely a business with a boxing ring as its shop window?

In any case Murata v GGG is still a first rate matchup between 2 great popular champions in what has always been a somewhat frustrating sport for most of its fans.

Yes he was.

The Golovkin-Saunders bout fell through, because GBP and HBO didn't want an upset scuppering the Canelo bout.

DAZN clearly agree with the betting odds and also the media predictions of Golovkin beating Murata considered a foregone conclusion, otherwise the fight wouldn't be allowed to happen.

If the fight is fun, then everyone is a winner, but let's not pretend that Murata is a better fighter than he really is.

golovkin beat canelo twice. back 2 back. clearly.
let's say hypothetically GGG did win both of those fights
how can you say he is the undisputed champ? based off of what? what canelo did AFTER the golovkin fights?
even if GGG won those fights, he did not win the 4 major world titles at 168 in those fights. which is the requirement to go undisputed. Canelo did that post golovkin rivalry, meaning he is STILL undisputed. if we our using our own anecdotes to decide pound for pound rankings, then Chenko beat GGG. Chenko lost to Charlo. is charlo the "p4p" best fighter at the moment? is he unDiSpUtEd despite only holding one major world title currently? stop the trolling

You can see the awe in which the world of boxing still holds GGG in by the respect he still gets from everyone connected to the sport.

He might be turning 40 tomorrow but he is still regarded as something almost superhuman, a genuine throwback legend from a previous time.

Murata has the knowledge that if he was ever going to face Golovkin, then this is the time and place to do it.

I'm expecting nothing but the best from Ryota Murata in this epic clash. It's probably the biggest fight in Japan since those legendary days of Mike Tyson.
