On another note, the promoter won’t get a share of beer money.
Knowing Frank he’s probably got a clause in there.

I mentioned the beer money… not because it would add to Frank’s profit but to highlight the serious profit margin like somewhere like Wembley can generate with 90k in there for hours.

Would not be surprised to find out the cost of hiring Wembley is surprisingly cheap because of this.

that is a surprisignly common misconception with fight fans......that purses are all that need to be covered, as if no one else is paid for putting on the event. also that the promoter gets 100 percent of ppv....

Very true.
I’m guessing here.
Fury 26mil
Whyte 6mil
Essouman 70k
Tetley 30k
Ball 20k
Lowe 40k
Adelaye 15k
Healy 5x Twix
Tommy 50k
Polish opponent 10k

Wembley aren’t taking the piss, it’s simple supply and demand, they know you can’t bring your own beer in and people demand a drink and they can supply it and people will buy even at silly money.

It is taking the piss. It’s all systematically done as well like having a ‘no drinking zone’ around the stadium but get inside and you can drink as much as you like.

Wembley Arena or the MEN charge the same. Yes people have a choice but these places can do better than charging 7-50 for a shit lager.

I didn’t get a drink because I won’t get ripped off by pudenda making a 95% profit margin of drinking shite beer out of a plastic cup.

Nothing wrong with charging a fiver. Tbh, there should be a max price limit nationwide on a pint; call it 5-50 max.

Airports are twats as well for it.

Add on Wembley rental costs. BT will want paying too. Tax will also need to be paid (income tax and VAT).

I’m no expert, but Fury and Whyte having such large guarantees up front (particularly Fury) means that this show can’t make any conceivable profit even at best guess without huge record breaking PPV sales, which just won’t happen in this day and age of online illegal streaming.

Purse bids killed the profit on this show. Surely, regardless of drink and food prices at Wembley.

Eddie said in a interview they wouldnt had paid Fury in full, some kind of deal before the bout which allows them to bid more as they only had to give Whtye the full amount, Maybe Fury was only paid 15m :maybe:

that's something ive wondered about when guys do monster bids, or tbh any bids

if promoter cuts a deal with the fighter, they can then overbid to get them home/promotional advantage without really having to pay as much as the bid would require them to.

There are many costs associated with a show that, whilst not huge in themselves, can really build up:-

Venue hire
Event insurance
Hotels (can get big)
Per diems (food allowance for fighters/staff)
Ring hire
Seating hire
Mat hire (if required under the seating)
Travel (often international)
Board tax
Sanctioning fees
Screen / AV outside of that supplied by TV
Charges for officials
MC (only significant with top level guys)
Marketing costs - TV, Radio, Newspapers (can be huge)

That is the just the first lot off the top of my head.

The other thing that gets overlooked is the actual revenue a promoter ends up with from the sale of a ticket, given the following deductions:-

VAT (20% - covid reductions did not apply to sports events)
Boxer commission (generally 10%, but effectively 100% if boxer on a ticket deal)
Box office commission (5-10%)
Card processing charges (1.5%)

Not uncommon for only about £70 to be realised from a £100 ticket.

Depends on what there deal is with Fury. IF (and this is a massive if) they paid fury his full purse bid purse, then i think its unlikely to have profited. So it mainly comes down to what fury was willing to take.

Ultimently either way purse bids are just a big exercise in gambling. A bid of this size is wild, You could make 10 million, you could lose 10 million...

Judging succsess needs real numbers and Its so hard to get real numbers on things like this and there are many variables people often ignore. Such as:

-How many PPV buys?
-How much goes to queensberry per BT PPV buy?
-How much goes to qeensberry per a sky red button ppv buy?
-how much goes to queensberry per international buy?
-Costs, (undercard about 17 dollars, but the venue higher and promo ect a lot more).
-Gate.

People like to see 1,000,000 buys at 25 quid each, and then just say, "well that covered 25million quid of purses", which is absolute fantasy camp, and depending on deal might of covered 20 million, might of covered 10 million....(no idea on buys for this just an example.)

Interesting.

TBF to FWank, he kinda does owe Whyte a lawsuit.
We were all looking forward to the larks of a Fury vs Whyte build-up. Two great characters who sell a fight really well. We'd lap it up and it woulda surely cut through to the casuals.
But Dill did F all. Zilch. Nada.

Missed opportunity.

He did an interview with Bunce from his training camp and did a fair bit during fight week.

Certainly didn’t go above and beyond but I’d imagine he did more than enough to avoid a lawsuit.

Of course there is huge potential to lose money on shows, even with ppv and big crowds.
Nevertheless I saw the interview with FW where he was clearly content enough with the figures so I am sure everyone did well enough.

happens all the time, all promoters do it, it's much easier if the opponent is on a much smaller percentage. That's why Hearn couldnt win the bid as he would be obliged to pay 80%, to Fury.

No press release on PPV buys. Can only assume therefore that targets weren't reached. Otherwise they would have been shouting from the rooftops.

They never really do any press release for PPV buys do they?

They just about mention where it’s heading. Which they have done.

But you’re right. If it did good numbers, they’d be shouting it.

Seriously, if it made a profit or not, there will be some sort of legal action- either instigated by Fwank, or brought on him.

Regardless he's an idiot who blew an opportunity to sell himself on the biggest stage he's ever been on in his life, was timid and seemed wary of being made to look silly by Tyson during press week and seemed relieved that he didn't lay into him, even practically cuddling the guy. Then was outclassed and KO'd in front of everyone. Even in losing, he could have massively built on his brand for the future, but decided to just be an almost anonymous 'opponent' for the Tyson Fury Show. And he's left himself open to end up in court with Fish Eyes if the event doesn't turn a profit, because he had a direct hand in that outcome.

Sorry to kick a bloke when he's down and I actually quite like DW, but in trying to be clever he looks to have tanked his future earnings and burned a few bridges with some influential people. I know boxing is full of snakes but when Dillian tried to become one it became clear fairly quickly that he was lacking the required fangs to compete.

I think Frank said he’d already paid Whyte. After Whyte not playing ball initially I was expecting some withholding of the purse.

I agree he’s impacted his future earnings and didn’t fight the right fight but he seemingly did enough promotionally to avoid legal proceedings.
