I think athletes who say they're retiring should be pushed to commit for a minimum term, because it's a great way to cycle untested and then come back within 12 months before they've lost their ranking.

In Fury's case it still makes a lot of sense even then, because he wouldn't need an official ranking to get an immediate challenge against the future champ. If Usyk wins again, I fancy he'll sit that one out in the hope he goes on to lose. But if Uysk wins the rematch and says HE'S retiring unless Fury comes back... well, that'd be interesting.

This is just the wbc wanting to make another load of cash off the Usyk v Joshua fight.

They wouldn't normally put pressure on a fighter who'd just fought a mandatory to make a firm decision 2 weeks afterwards.

But Fury doesn't help himself sometimes. Could have sat quiet for months and the wbc wouldn't have batted an eyelid.

Excatly Fury brings it on himself ,, kept his mouth shut there would be nothing said at all at this stage .

Surely the WBC could say, ok we will strip Fury but whenever he decides to come back we will strip the champ and give it back to Fury! Or strip Fury and give him the title 'WBC Retirement Champion On Garden Leave'

He hasn't once said he's going to carry on, every answer he has given is that he's retired.

Nobody expects Tyson to fight again until after the Usyk v Joshua rematch is sorted. Obviously if Joshua wins the fight with Fury will happen. If Usyk wins, Tyson will consider fighting him but might not. Until then he should be left alone if that's what he wamts.

Indeed, he literally just fought his mandatory and wouldn't really be fighting again before the end of summer at best. As long as he shits or gets off the pot after AJ usyk, no harm done

WBC will want to reinstall Wilder if they can and return to the previous protected scenario to keep the belt in the US .

At some point a champion becomes bigger than the belts. When Larry Holmes was stripped of the title it wasn't like he still wasn't the man of the division. Everybody knew Larry Holmes was still the man to beat. Fury is now in that position to where he does not need a belt at all to still be considered the champion. He's crossed over into the cultural mainstream whereas the other title holders haven't. He's by consensus the champion of the world belt or no belt.

If he was serious about retiring then he'd have vacated at the post fight presser
