Disagree. Usyk weighed in at 221 in this last fight, 217 and 215 before that and he doesn't have a muscular or thin build wear he really has to drain. There's cruiserweights that probably walk around heavier than that. For him to lose 20lbs is only 10% of his weight. Canelo probably walks around at 185 and cuts close to 10% of that to make 168.

Caneloweight Heavyweight. Anything over 200lbs is considered HW and 201 would be the catchweight.

if you think canelo beats usyk, who do you think would actually beat canelo at heavyweight? just fury? or does canelo beat him too

after he's cleaned up heavyweight, what about him fighting a grizzly bear - who would you go with there. and what about vs gawdzilla?

pretty good for a guy who was basically even with 37 year old sergey kovalev in the 11th round in his 1 fight at lhw. i think canelo's a total stud but some superhero fantasy sheeyat is really taking off with him lately

let's wait another 48 hours and let's see then if anybody still thinks it would be a great idea for canelo to step into the ring with usyk.

i could be wrong but i doubt that after saturday nobody with half a brain cell left will ever suggest a canelo/usyk fight would make any sense, for canelo at least.

I know it may seem silly of me to say but Bivol’s never been in the same room with a body snatcher of this magnitude. 10 or 11 rounds of feints to the liver will guarantee that if Bivol hears that final bell, it won’t be after he’s earned the new nickname Huggy Bear.

I don't think this fight makes sense for Alvarez. The skills gap is pretty thin either way and the size difference is quite considerable. Although a loss to Usyk wouldn't theoretically destroy Alvarez's marketability, getting knocked out and no longer being 100% would certainly do it. He must be thinking that, if he's going up to cruiserweight anyway, there's not much difference between a CW like Briedis and a former CW like Usyk. But he should way until Usyk is like 37 and is slowing down a bit.

If Alvarez wants to maximize his income safely, he should just become undisputed at LHW as fast as possible, beat Gilberto Ramirez while he's at it, and then make the jump to collecting CW belts. He wouldn't be fighting cash cow opponents, but the mere fact that he's collecting undisputed titles would improve his drawing power.

I think so. Canelo is too savvy and and accustomed to fight at the elite level in high end events like FMJ was too. Bivol is a legit/solid champion but I think he's a one dimensional fighter with not so much weapons in his arsenal to trouble enough Canelo.

Some interesting things I've noticed about Canelo is his patience to set traps and lure his opponents. Canelo is very savvy and cagey as a fighter and of course very strong.

In reality Bivol is in a win-win situation. He's gonna get the biggest payday to date of his life. If Bivol gets beat or stopped by Canelo, it would not be such a big drama bc he fought an ATG fighter.

It would not be easy for Usyk too draining down to 201 lbs at 36-37 y/o, and probably it would be a rehydration clause too. Usyk is very skilled, even more skilled than Canelo but the age and the weight cutting would play a major role.

It's win-win all round.
Usyk wins, it was expected, the bigger man, no shame in a gutsy effort by Canelo.
Usyk loses he was weight drained anyway and bows out with millions more in the bank anyway.

I've just watched a video of Eddie Hearn commenting on the Canelo-Usyk situation and the Matchroom boss appeared to be playing it down and back-tracking on the idea.

At least it grabbed the media headlines though, which was probably the original intention of conveying that idea.

It would. 20lbs at a fighting weight of 221 is only 10% which most fighters like the Charlos gain more than 10% of their weight after the weigh in. Briedis and Usyk probable are the same weight on fight night.

Hearn is a smart cat. But I think Canelo would challenge Usyk - AJ II winner, if he will unify the 175 divivion and then fight Makabu.

That gingerboy is in the supersayan mode. Legacy-wise, he wants to be immortal. RJJ did it against Ruiz and also Toney tried.

Canelo can do it too.

That is pretty much what this all sounds like to me, too. "Can Canelo actually fight against Jesus Christ, is that possible? No? Hmm, what about like 3, 4 heavyweight opponents at once? And they get to wear brass knuckles instead of gloves? Is that a big enough challenge? Like, what if you tie Canelo's hands behind his back so he can't punch, would anybody in the universe be strong enough to beat him then?"

That said hes not beating Usyk and if he does bulk up for it he should knock it on the head after, coming back down in weight absolutely finished Roy Jones when he did it.

The 2018 212lbs iteration of Deontay Wilder was definitely capable of competing as a cruiserweight. And back then, the American even expressed a desire to capture one of the world titles at that weight.

But six months ago, he was a physically ripped muscular 238lb-er and he’ll be at least 37 years of age the next time he competes (assuming he hasn’t already retired for good).

I guess this is a moot point anyway, because Wilder doesn’t currently have anything to offer Canelo.

Deontay doesn’t have a world title and Canelo can command similar paydays to what he’d probably earn against Wilder facing much easier opposition.

I remember when Chris Byrd came out of retirement and fought Shawn George at 175.
Byrd was obviously well beyond the tail-end of his boxing career at that time.
He was able to get back down to that weight by basically becoming an all out distance runner.
I say, back down to that weight, being that I know that he was boxing at 175 for his first few pro bouts.
In that comeback attempt, against Shawn George, Byrd actually looked quite good for the first few rounds, but then soon thereafter, it was like He had burned all his energy and vitality out, after those first few good rounds, and was promptly tko'd by his 175 lb journeyman opponent.
