Maybe that there is a problem. Are the top names too greedy? Not enough to go around, too expensive to be on terrestrial TV, too well off to need to fight often.

The top boxers in the U.K. and US are overpaid for the commercials they deliver on the whole.

If you compare something like the premier league darts on Sky to their next Saturday fight night show, I’d imagine the boxing show costs more to put on yet yields far less viewers, ad revenue and probably ticket sales too.

I believe boxing struggles because it is not marketed correctly.

It is still seen as this brutal sport full of aggressive people who would otherwise be locked up if not in the ring.

I think the Klitschko brothers were the exception to the rule, they were highly educated and connected with the German public with regular viewership of 11+million.

The other problem is that fewer people are actually taking up boxing full-time, which means a smaller talent pool, which mean that when promoters find their cash cow they want to ensure that they have a slim chance of losing, this means lots and lots of fights which are not even close to being 50-50, which the public doesn't want to see and get annoyed by.

My son is 21. Huge football fan. He says boxing is the number 2 sport among lads his age.

I would simply say that sanctioning bodies must rate all fighters and cannot eliminate other title holders fro their rankings. Eventually the other belt holders would be number 1 contender and forced to fight. Obviously, there would be ways around this. But it might help.

It’s not like there are loads of promoters with decent stables not already tied to a TV network. Also networks, like promoters would like to build fighters so their viewership increases. Would be difficult to do going from one promoter to another.

The standard of judging in fights hasn’t done boxing any favours

So this thread has kind of become a "what's wrong with boxing" thread.

And to summarise:
- Lack of TV exposure
- Too many governing bodies & titles
- Fighters avoiding other top fighters
- TV Channels/Promoters relationship
- PPVs & standard of PPV fighters
- Poor judging & scoring

These are all damaging, and they're all also extremely difficult to realistically overcome!

eddeh did a great job reviving the popularity, it's sputtered a bit the last few years but still in a good place, albeit nothing close to football

Agree, it has sputtered since he left terrestrial TV.
He owed as much to Sky as they ever owed to him.
And now with DAZN he is out in the fringes, and suffering because of it.
All that DAZN money hasn't been spent very well. Two years in and he has less of a stable than prior.

it very much is a only a minority sport , lets have it right it is 2 blokes or babes punching each other till the other stops or quits , i think pre covid boxing was on its biggest wave in which i meach every divison was stacked with fights here in the uk and ireland and europe and the usa then asia aswell , i mean it was great cards from uk then after they finshed there was a great in america that follwed on the same night nearly every 2 weeks, there is 2 many ppv channels to start with also copy rights have made it very hard to watch fights back that you missed , then you kinda forget or lose interest with that fighter .honestly from 2015 till 2019 i thought boxing was great
