its one of those audeley bigged himself up so much when he couldnt lived up to it people are going to jump on it, the way i see it you can only fight whats in ur era , didnt rate him my self ,but he wasnt the worst fighter by far, just wasnt a good era of boxing at the time

Not in the dominating way Audley did.

Wilder landed one punch during the entire fight thanks to Audley's sharp defence and head movement. Not many other boxers can say that.

Audley’s biggest problem by far was that he over hyped himself.

Before he turned pro he claimed he could win the British title and beat the likes of Danny Williams in five fights.

Embarrassing to see Price celebrating like that at the time but looking back it's understandable. He was mentally weak. It was a terrible version of Audley but to Price it was a monumental win. He was probably petrified himself in there.

Strange time period
Obviously it's fair to say he achieved nothing much as a pro
The euro bauble was nothing much at all
The Prizefighter win was probably his most impressive run and bauble against limited opps ...lots of fun

But what audley's incredible promotional skills and personality did do was kickstart a mini golden age for the domestic division.

The BBC deal was crucial because the beeb backed the audley interest up with various other fights and fighters (not just hw).

The emerging rivalries between Audley, Williams, sprott, Skelton, Rogan and sexton produced a series of fights that had a mixture of everything. And it was really the introduction of audley on prime terrestrial that helped this to happen.

One or two snorefests but a lot of genuine excitement.

The Sprotty KO of audley was a highlight, the hugely controversial Sprott v Williams 2 , Audley's sudden meanstreak KO of Williams, Danny's period of wobbly legs at domestic, euro and world level were right out of a rocky film.

I still maintain if a focussed Williams had fought Brewster instead of the mountain Klit he might have grabbed a world bauble?

Ultimately Audley failed spectacularly to deliver when he needed to.

The Haye fight was probably the worse performance in living memory

A huge amount, and beeb pretty much bailed I think after Matthew ellis bore fest. The entertainment value up til then was poor. Audley was fighting a string of opps barely touching 6ft and he was so reluctant to engage...also his accuracy was pretty awful.

This is the thing with Audley - he convinced millions of us what he was going to do and the one person he couldn't convince was himself.

Was never going to win a World title even in that infuriating era. Even someone like Chagaev would have beaten him every time. Trying to think of the weakest champ during his career? It wasn’t long ago that he completely lost he shit and started saying he’s Tony Soprano and trying to fight the world… over Twitter.

Not having a go. But I remember even at the time, I was amazed that anybody thought Audley had a chance. Even the casuals had been ripping the piss out of Audley for a decade before that. Suddenly because it was pay-per-view, everybody went; "Oh, actually. Maybe he will win."

Always slightly baffled me that one.

That was the one I got wrong personally.

Price's power at domestic level, his big knockouts. I thought he'd do well.

I couldn't believe it when he was knocked out against Thompson.
