Shakur Stevenson misses weight, stripped of 130-pound titles ahead of Friday's fight vs. Robson Conceicao
Shakur Stevenson failed to make weight Thursday ahead of his fight against Robson Conceicao on Friday in Newark, New Jersey, and will be stripped of his two 130-pound titles, per championship fight rules governed by the WBO and WBC.
The 25-year-old weighed 131.6 pounds and had two hours to shed 1.6 pounds but determined he couldn't lose the excess weight.
"I gave it my all," tweeted Stevenson, ESPN's No. 1 junior lightweight. "I've been professional my whole career and made weight, but my body just can't make 130 anymore. My health has to come first. I'm moving up to 135 in my next fight."
Conceicao, an Olympic gold medalist, will be eligible to win the two vacant titles, which will remain vacant if he loses. Stevenson and Conceiao reached an agreement on a financial penalty for Stevenson's failure to make weight in order to allow the fight to proceed, sources said. Stevenson was scheduled to earn $3 million, per sources.
Conceicao, a 33-year-old from Brazil, weighed 129.6 pounds for the second title opportunity of his career. His other crack at a championship came in September 2021, when he dropped a controversial decision to Oscar Valdez.
Valdez was allowed to fight, despite the presence of a banned substance in his system following a positive test weeks before the bout. Conceicao (17-1, 8 KOs) rebounded with a rout of Xavier Martinez in January while Valdez was dominated by Stevenson in April.
Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs) will be fined by the New Jersey State Athletic Commission.
Stevenson formerly held a title at 126 pounds. An Olympic silver medalist, Stevenson could seek high-stakes fights with fellow Top Rank boxers Devin Haney, the undisputed lightweight champion, and Vasiliy Lomachenko at 135 pounds.

3am is the equivalent to 10pm ET. That’s ehen the main card begins. There’s only one fight before Shakur’s.
But to be on the safe side, I’d say watch from 3am.

119-107 Stevenson, shut out barring the deduction in the 9th for throwing Conceicao to the canvas, there was a couple close rounds where I was edging towards Conceicao but some flurries late in the rounds by Stevenson was enough to steal rounds, it wasnt a pasting, Conceicao was just outworked and outboxed, Stevenson controlled the ring, walked him down, jabbed and landed the straight left, Conceicao tried to work his right but could only land sparingly, the knockdown Stevenson scored in the 4th looked bogus at first but replay shows a left landing to the body of Conceicao when he went to his knee, bit of a bore Conceicao was never in it and Stevenson ran out a clear winner

Gotta love Shak’s skill set for sure… but there’s a lack of power there and it was evident at 126 and 130. That may be his undoing at lightweight at the very top level.
Logical fight is the Haney v Kambo loser next then then the winner of that and Loma.
Imagine Loma v Shak; purely one for the purists that.

Imagine getting Loma to take it! He hates fast fighters and does his level best to avoid them. Only top flight speedster he fought he got beaten.

He lost the fight vs Lopez for sure… but I genuinely believe the long layoff played its part in those first 6 rounds but after that it was Loma who was out speeding Lopez.
I’d actually fancy a best version of Loma against the best we have seen of Shak.
And I’m a Stevenson fan.
Close though.

Who else has he fought with that level of speed and boxing ability? I admire his skills but he’s a cherry picker. I also don’t disagree he can beat Shakur. It’s just getting him to fight these guys is my point.

Both men don’t currently have a whose who of murderers on their cv and Shak is still only 25 whereas Loma is on the downward curve.
But tbf Loma is fighting a warm up then most probably Haney who is currently one of the slickest boxers out there. And he’s faaaaaast.

I thought conceicao put up a fight. Stevenson is a great boxer hurt con in the 3rd with left hook I think Stevenson got frustrated he couldn't get con out so hiptossed him in the 9th didn't cost him this time but wants to get that out of his game especially he had that petrol station stuff. So he can be rattled won close to all the rds for me but looks like he was going through the motions a lot had a decent a 11

Shak has come to 135 justtt too late to get all the fun.
-Haney vs Kambo... Haney will probably move up afterwards. if not he will fight loma.
-Garcia has moved up
-Teo has moved up.
-Tanks probably going to jail....
-Lomas aging.
just need Shak vs Loma and cruz and tank, then he can go to 140 and chase the others.
