As said; Gavin Rees had a similar fight with a troll who was actually a mate and guy he trained at his gym.
Not at all the same. A lot of people saw this guy trolling Sunny on Twitter. Sunny was playing with him. Rees hit the much bigger bloke with spite then wrote about him "mouthing off".
As said - I'm not aware of any Twitter trolling - not saying the foreign fella did or not .. merely that it wasn't made clear other than the clip title.

Gavin Rees trained the fella in his gym - it was nothing but two of them winding each other up. There was no real malice from Rees .. even though he folded his mate🤣

I find it really unsettling that this is being defended/enjoyed.

It’s irresponsible and could have seriously damaged the sport.

Imagine someone gets hurt during one of these? We know nothing about the non boxer…. Nothing about his ability level or most importantly his health. He could have an underlying condition and end up seriously injured or worse. There were some pretty heavy head shots in there.

You can’t argue it’s his own fault or that he deserved it. Licensed boxers have to be more responsible and hold themselves to a higher standard.

I’m not piling in on Edwards here. He probably just didn’t think it through and thought it was a bit of fun… but nobody should be condoning/encouraging this.

I made a post earlier wondering if they got him to sign some sort of waiver or disclaimer. Saying that do amateur boxing clubs check anything when people join up these days? Granted newbies aren't chucked in with world champs but I've certainly seen liberties taken on people when they've first started sparring.

Sunny wants the big fights in his division and isn't helping himself with this. He's better than this.

If you go to a boxing gym you should get bashed up a bit, boxing is about getting bashed up, if you wanna be a boxer you need that reality check day one.
It's not a Boxercise class.

Someone like that lad shouldn't be allowed in the ring with a world champion like that even if Sunny was pulling his punches.

Edwards looked after him, there was no danger, just tired him out.

It would have been more dangerous against a novice amateur who was winging away

the most embarrassing one like this was wilder swinging for the fences vs charlie z

sonny was responsible in there, and if there were ever a model of how a spar with a troll should go that was it. but i still think it always looks lame when a top pro fighter stoops to this level. abusive internet trolls should just be ignored like the dirt they are. if you spar one it shows it they've succeeded in winding you up too. this dude is probably loving the attention

Always embarrassing when these "fighters" get so triggered by a troll calling them a pussy or a clown and then have to show how tough they are.

It was cringe and embarassing when Woodhouse did it.
It was cringe and embarassing when Wilder did it (and failed to knock him out despite trying his best lol)
It's cringe and embarassing when Edwards did it.

I saw the whole thing unfold on twitter from day one. That fella had it coming. They way they’ve presented and edited this vid really obscures what really happened.

If you’re chatting away you’re gonna annihilate someone constantly for days and weeks then you can expect something.

Edwards apparently paid for his travel etc. and just embarrassed him without battering him. I don’t mind this kind of thing. Edwards himself said he wasn’t happy with the edit

Reflects dreadfully on boxing. Just ignore the trolls.

Sure, Edwards could have gone harder.

But to say there was no danger isn’t accurate.

He caught him with a couple of clean head shots, folded him over and pushed him to exhaustion.

If the guy had undiagnosed issues, such as heart arrhythmia or a congenital brain/eye issue, the consequences could have been severe.

Or even if he had mild asthma and hadn’t told anyone he could have been in trouble. Are we going to trust a ‘troll’ to be honest about his medical conditions.

Ok, so everyone got away with it and had a laugh at someone who possibly has mental health issues. But it sets a dangerous precedent that shouldn’t be condoned.

Licensed professionals should not be fighting guys off the street.

Yes but on the flip side anyone taking up a combat or heavy contact sport could have an undiagnosed medical problem. As someone else said he would likely get hurt more fighting a fellow novice rather than a pro toying with him.

Those rumours have been quashed, they are going to wait until next year when Hatton has more experience and the Troll has been out of the gym.
Also the troll looks a bit big for Hatton.

Any amateur gym worth it’s salt wouldn’t take two novices off the street and get them sparring on day one.

They would be built up slowly to it and the spars would be watched closely. The trainers would also get to know of any diagnosed condition the lads had. Symptoms of undiagnosed things would also be more likely to come out beforehand.

Moreover, the point is this is just a completely unnecessary risk. Bad things do happen in sport, of course, but in the spirit of competition.

What was this in the spirit of?

What normally happens is the novice gets thrown in with an experienced amateur who shows him how hard the game is.
If the novice has the ass to come back he has already shown something you can't teach.
Most of the other things in boxing you can teach.

Too right, not taking liberties or bashing the bloke up, but doing what Edwards did, well prob a bit more.

Amateur boxing gyms don't even cover their costs in subs, there is no interest in time wasters.

The harsh reality that if you want to box you have to fight.

If you want to learn to skip and do pads in a mirror laden gym, pay 20 quid a session and join a boxercise class

I’ve been around a lot of amateur gyms. Only one of them got kids to spar on their first night and it was a horrific watch. Didn’t agree with it at all.

Either way, you could argue there is a point to that.

What is the point in a licensed athlete and world champion folding a nobody in half and bringing him to the point of vomiting? Or risking injuring him. What would the headlines be?

What coco says is true for the majority of gyms I previously trained at.

Unfortunately it turns a lot of youngsters away - and turns out majority of guys who fight with their face and walk on their heels in later years. Macho toughness only takes you so far.

Have you ever seen a kid bent double, tk the point of vomiting on his first night at the gym?

Many a time, and quite rightly so, boxing isn't for everyone, they need to know what they are getting into.
I remember once I sparred a 16 year old first timer.
I told him he had to keep punching to keep me off. And that if he stopped punching I would start punching him back!
Fair play to him for 2 3 minute rounds he kept punching, I never actually punched him once.
He ran to be sick at the end of the second round.
