like greg said, when a guy is winning but utterly flattened, do we say an injury (concussion) caught up to him even though it's true? or if he was winning then got his ribs cacked by a l ovely body shot? oh he was winning until the injury

just seems like a way of downplaying the loss to me. keep in mind that the doctor never stepped in and said the eye was too messed up for dubs to continue
I haven't noticed. For me I was just speaking to his performance in that fight. A loss is a loss. Wasn't a bad performance by dubs but unfortunate end to the fight much like Klit/LL. No worries.

vitali badly wanted to go on but a doctor said the cuts were too severe. dubs was punched until he could no longer withstand it and was counted out. no one ever told him he wasnt allowed to go on.

True, but that's how I see it. Unfortunate endings. both competitive fights; both ended on injuries from punches. Not my favorite endings.

i disagree. if the doctor had said 'this eye is too damaged for dubois to continue' , and stopped it to a protesting dub, that would be one thing.

but that never happened and no one told dubois he couldnt fight on. instead dubois was cleared to fight but simply couldnt take any more of being repeatedly nailed and got counted out. he couldve continued and potentially won that fight on points even with the eye hurting, but he didnt. that to me isnt losing on injury any more than someone getting their ribs worn down and taking a 10 count from a lot of good body shots is. who knows, maybe on another night their body wouldvve held up better.

Certainly your prerogative. :TU:

margaret thatcher wrote: 14 Aug 2022, 05:45 ya that's true, but it's not the scenario i mean though when discussing this. i was overly broad in the thread title tbf

when a guy is, say, schooling his opponent and then in round 9 gets caught by a single jab that cuts his eye and the fight is stopped to his protests, while he has all his wits and balance about him, that's different. in that case, hell, another doctor might even have given him the fury treatment and let him continue and go on to win.

but when a dude is counted out because his face was smashed in and he doesn't want anymore, that's hardly any different from being counted out on a cracking rib shot that makes one take a knee for 10, or being counted out because you've been ground down and are concussed and dizzy from accumulated shots on the chin

Dubois should have been pulled out three rounds before Andy Lee called it right he shouldn't have been in that position to "quit" I was amazed the doctor hadn't checked it as it has obviously been swollen completely shut with a cracked bone for three rounds and he was taking punch after punch on it, it must have been excruciating

I think that's different to a guy just saying fornicate that after a few bad rounds

Body shots are a strange one as some are legitimately crippling enough to have you writhing in agony, some we have seen guys take a knee and try to get up but just food back down with the pain , sometimes yes it looks like if a guys life depended on it he could haul himself up but the pain is just too much

But we've seen guys like Eric Morales in the most brutal fights you can possibly have, and he wanted to quit against Wayne McCullough and winked at his corner and stayed down against Pacquiao

Strange minds

If this video is correct (I don't have any medical knowledge so can't verify) it is a bit of a misconception that body shots are merely extremely painful and so a fighter's ability to get up from them is a question of pain tolerance. The effects of a liver shot go much further.

The whole point of the Injury is that you’re punched in the head.

Brook’s eye fvcked up so he couldn’t continue against GGG.

Who do you think cause his eye damage?

So many examples of this.
