I think at his Mason Dixon fight they said he had lost 23 times. Which is basically the opposite of a padded record... he apparently approved dramatically upon stepping into the ring with Creed.

Chauncy Welliver's early period suggests some serious padding, and his later career was notorious for the padding that Chauncy aka "the human punching bag" carried into the ring.

57 wins, 23 losses, 1 draw, 54 kayos according to Google. Sounds about right. Because in the ring entrance to the first Apollo Creed fight the announcers say:
"He's had 44 victories. 38 by knockout. And he's lost 20 fights." He had the loss to Apollo (21) and the loss to Lang (22). He had 10 title defenses all by kayo (54; 48) then beat Lang and Drago (56; 50). Throw in the draw with Thunderlips you end up with 56-22-1 (50).
Google (and the film Rocky Balboa) is off by 1 win, 1 loss, and I have no idea where the other 4 kayos came from. Unless Rocky had a few non title fights or something. Or we can blame BoxRec like they did with the Johnny Davis exhibition bout with Joe Louis claiming it was a world title match.

This thread is why the world needed something like Boxrec where laymen like me can research the records of boxers who might have breath taking records but when you scratch beneath the surface you see something differently
Sean O'Grady had an absolutely outstanding record when he fought Jim Watt. He'd won over 70 fights and nearly all of his victories were early round knock outs. That sort of record was on par with the great Roberto Duran. It wasn't until Boxrec came in to existence you could research O'Grady's record and see many of his opponents were making their debut never to fight again or a loss rate massively outweighing their wins. According to Rich The Fight Historian in his youtube documentary "Blood and Bubblegum" O'Grady got the Watt fight at very short notice and relatively small "take it or leave it" boxing fee which seems to indicate he wasn't held in all that high regard by the boxing authorities
Looking at Peter McNeeley - he who fought Mike Tyson after he came out of jail - he'd won 36 out of 37 fights. Thing was only five of his opponents won more than they lost and a stat I remember at the time was that despite being 36-1 this wasn't enough to place McNeely in the top 1,000 heavyweights
Talking of which Brian Neilsen is another HW whose record was composed of hasbeens and anon boxers

There was a US HW in 90s or 00s with lot of fixed fights who was demolished in 1 or 2 rounds when he stepped against rated guy. Not remembering his name.

donnell holmes was another padded boi, though not ko'd early in his first step up

cent's guy fits the bill of david rodriguez too, was something like 36-0 (34) with a career best win over a past it owen beck when darnell wilson ko'd him

Not that I would consider it a padded record but it is crazy to see Len Wickwar fighting someone with over a 100 pro wins then 6 days later fighting someone on their pro debut.
