his early stoppages, at least a couple of them, came not from power but from sneaking a bodyshot in there well-disguised and obviously hitting the spot when the opponent wasn't tensed for it.

Change of trainer, change of style, opponent's durability/chin/defensive skills.

Do we know? As was noted at the time, his Boxing Life Stories episode had very little boxing in it. Marshall looked out of her depth the other week, despite some somehow seeing a close fight, and it’s arguable anyone can train Tyson.

I doubt a man of his size was fully mature in the early fights. He was very young to turn pro for a heavyweight.
True, he was only a babby when he turned pro and hadn't developed his man strength (although when he was 25 he looked 40).

I am with you Mickey, there is no way any if the Fury family would even consider getting involved in any form of illegal substance.

Ha. Joking aside I don't think PEDs make someone punch harder, being stronger doesn't mean you hit harder. It's more down to technique.

A combination of the two, IMO. If you're as weak as a kitten you could throw technically perfect punches but they wouldn't hurt as much as the same punch thrown by a physically stronger individual.

Whyte is chinny and Wilder chin has been questioned in the past (with little evidence).

Yep should’ve been renamed Old Lag Stories for that episode. I think with regard to Sav Marsh the old saying you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear explains the gulf in class evident last week.

In the aftermath of Tyson’s win over Wlad, Peter was credited by all and sundry with having masterminded the tactical plan that nullified Wlad to such an extent that he could barely throw a right hand in anger. Maybe he’ just excels in teaching defence rather than attack ? :maybe:

Mickey how did the travelling community look on Tyson's decision to part from Uncle Pete and take on two Goggers (Davison and Hill) as his trainers?

Yes you need some strength of course, I just meant someone who can lift massive weights or looks like a bodybuilder can't necessarily punch hard. You don't really need to hit that hard to knock someone out, speed, technique and timing is the key. Some guys like Foreman and Shavers had sheer power, Mike Tyson was a big puncher too but his speed and combination punching made him more dangerous.

Punching power comes down to Technique more than it does Muscles really.

A big musclehead flailing his arms at you and hitting you in the side of the head in all likelihood isn't gonna do as much damage as a skinny kid who decks you on the chin with pinpoint accuracy.

The Whyte stoppage looked devastating - but then again Povetkin also looked a thunderous puncher when he KO`d Whyte. Therefore, as good a shot Fury laid Whyte out with, I think the fragility of Whyte has to be considered too.

I agree. PEDs don`t really turn someone into a big one punch dynamite puncher - but what they can do is increase a persons stamina/endurance. I don`t see Fury punching any different to early in his career - he still appears to `arm-punch` but with Wilder it was his fitness/stamina/endurance that got him the stoppage.

Tommy Hearns was a devastating puncher soon as he turned pro at 19. You only have to look at how he is throwing the punches to see its a mix of great technique and natural power - where as Fury still appears to lack that same great technique of delivery.

My monies on PEDs being the biggest factor on Fury being able to get the stoppages.

Pete got the fight strategy bang on for the Wlad fight and his 'reputation' is built on the back of that, apart from getting his sickly, half witted son bashed up every time he fights someone decent he's achieved nothing in the sport.

Speaking of Huggy, did you see that state of him in the ring before the Shields/Marshall fight?

His forehead/brow is more sloped/Neanderthal like than ever and his lower jaw has increased in size, classic HGH side effects, I bet the poor sod won't see forty.

He plants his feet more so punches harder.

Nevertheless he isn't a banger, he wore Wilder out rather than anything else.

Whyte is hardly rock solid in the chin department
