So lets start rucking like the old days🤣 when I give you the following statements …

Joe Calzaghe had a padded & inflated record.

Calzaghe’s best wins were against:

Over hyped american “club” fighter Jeff Lacey.

An old & past it Roy Jones Jr.

An old & past it Bernard Hopkins.

Whilst I think Joe Calzaghe was a good fighter …

Carl Froch had a better record in that he was not protected and fought fighters in their prime

I love you, Spudman but imo Joe’s best win was Kessler.
What a fighter he was.

Calzaghe would lose to Bivol too.
Canelo gets to much admiration as well though. His record don’t show the full story he would of been beaten on a fair few occasions if the judges were on point.

Calzaghe beats Canelo fairly comfortably. I think he’s all wrong for Canelo

Hard to argue that he isn't our all time greatest?!
Calzaghe had a cast iron chin but to say Canelo wouldn't catch him is a bit harsh. Yes Canelo might not floor him, but even Ritchie Woodhall tagged him several times.

Thinking of Sturm v De La Hoya, some America judges might plump for Canelo on home ground. I don’t think any serious polls in Boxing News ever put Calzaghe above Jones. I think it’s fair comment Ward would have had live chances with his accuracy. Maybe Calzaghe squeaks it on home territory. I don’t think in America he would ever have beaten Ward.
Prime Ward, before the layoff would have beaten any Super Middle in history for me.
That's a bold statement.

1. Prime Roy Jones?

2. Hopkins as he went up.

3. Sven ottke?

(One of those 3 is a joke of course).
Yeah, I take him over RJJ and B-Hop, but maybe not In-Chul Baek or Chong Pal Park. :D

Big fan of Calagzies ,,, not a big fan of el cheato , just because his head got above him and he JUMPED UP AND TOOK ON bIVOL , Lets not forget , how he waited and waited for some to get old , lets not forget all the Canelo weights ,, let not forget the tainted meat .

However ,, i'm with Spud, Canelo would of beat Joe ,, maybee not stopped him , but in his prime did slip punches and hit hard enough to really keep pressure on Joe , with Joes hands especielly in later years not being heavy handed enough to keep Canelo off him , slaps would not off bothered Canelo ,. Canelo's biggest asset is his distancing ,, he knows it to perfection , Joes handspeed does'nt matter when his opponent is just that 2 inches out of range ,, , what beats Canelo is a boxer with a good dig to make him wary and perfect better distancing than his own , and that man was/ is named Bivol .

Some peoples reps gget bigger and better with age ,, Joe Calagzie is one of them , With saying that i was a big fan of Joe's regardless of what titles he won i liked his style

Genuinely surprised there's a debate about this. Coco's touched on it, but JC all wrong for Canelo. Too fast, too resilient and too multi-faceted. Genuinely struggling to make any case for a super-middle version of Canelo being able to beat JC. Unequivocal iMO. JC vs Ward is a far more interesting debate IMO. Would lean towards the latter in that match-up, but would be fascinating to see it play out.

Agree with all that mate. It’s because boxings pretty shit just now that Canelos getting all the heavy praise. He’s had some right shady gift decisions, even forgetting the GGG fights.

So forum, it seems the majority of you say “The cheating mexican” would have beaten Calzaghe.

In my view Ward would have as well.

I admit at the time I was a cheerleader for
Froch … but I am convinced that Froch had the better record than Calzaghe in that he fought more fighters in the world class bracket than Calzaghe plus more fighters in their prime.

If you disagree put ne in my place👍 and tell me why I am wrong.

I think Calzaghe would have beaten Alvarez and Froch. His handspeed, volume of punches, great chin, and superb fitness is a nightmare for anyone.

He would have given Ward fits too, although Ward had the advantage of using illegal wrestling tactics, as well as boxing.

Still say i think elcheato would off beat Joe , think Joe would of beat Froch , and Ward would of beat Froch and Joe ,, but only because he always got away with holding , spoiling and just ruining a fight expert at being messy yet looking good doing it ..
Not so sure about beating Canelo ,, because i doubt they would of allowed Ward to do what he used to do , Canelo was / is too popular , refs would bow to him not ward , Just shows the ducking and diving was prevelent them days has well

I know mate. It baffles me how his fights against GGG are spoken about now it’s as if people didn’t actually watch the fights. Then there is The Lara and trout fights ( both of which were very close just not in the judges eyes

you are mixing up issues, who is a better fighter and who had a stronger resume, i dont think it's some big contrarian opinion that froch had a stronger record. he also lost to a guy joe beat handily while the guy was in his prime

It is to me, rediculous

When people have to big up a win against a middleweight in Arthur it shows. Mitchell, Brewer, Omar Sheika (fresh off a win over Glen Johnson, who Froch would labour to a decision to about ten years later)

Calzaghe had the better record , he has the best win over a guy who beat prime Froch past his own prime, end of

i think jc was a level above froch, wouldve beaten him clearly. i think froch has stronger wins overall if you add them up, but to me their results vs kessler sum up what i see as jc being the superior fighter. he had more tools to work with and was extremely fit himself, froch wouldnt grind him down

Fully agree. If it was the Calzaghe who could actually still punch properly, he might really have beaten Froch up.
