Yeah, in the first scenario I’m sure it’s not the first time we’ve all seen a strategic knee.

In the second scenario, I guess if you beat a count only to immediately go down for another one you’d expect to get waved off, wouldn’t you? You’ve shown you’re not capable of fighting.
Exactly. Just taking knees without getting hit is an automatic stoppage. Certainly for Lerena it would have been.

Well I can't link the fight but it's on dailymotion.

Bang on 10 seconds left and the bell goes.

Corrupt scumbags.

Yeh. Inless you slips, it’s basically taking a knee isn’t it?

I’ve never known the 3 knockdown rule been enforced in a UK ring.

I remember it been used in Ireland in a Bernard Dunne fight but not this country.

I don’t think the fight was fixed but there was certainly some corruption at play with the early end to round 1.

It was maxxing out A-side privlage thats for sure.

-going down like that a b side would of been waved off (probably the 2nd time but definatly the third time).

-Bell going early.... This could be a time keeping mistake, but iv never ever seen it happen in a way that helps the B-side. Seen it a few times in a way that helps A side. (only one i clearly remember is AJ vs Usyk 1 round 12...)

-Stoppage, At first i wasnt as upset as most about this, DDD landed 4 thunderous punches in a row and that uppercut especialy was sickening. but iv heard the 2nd last shot was on the bell and the last after it... Ref has to give him time to recover and if its stopped it should be no contest (or even DQ depending on how late it was, i had the volume low so cant comment on that.). I Fuking hate that things that should be NC or DQ seem to just go down as a Knockout win for A side, see that plenty weather its late shots, shots back of the head, or shots to a downed oopponent, there often just ignored because "he was going to get knocked anyway".....

Id love to see DDD accept it had some controversy and take an rematch, i think Kev deserves it.

Right at the bottom of the web page is Rules and Regulations…all boxing fans should take the 5-10 mins to read. (This isn’t a sarcastic post, it’s just surprising how much people don’t know. Mind you, I didn’t realise the circumference of the ball had to be off the field of play and I’ve watched football as long as boxing 🤣)

Im convinced Dubois had a bad problem with his knee, I dont think he was even shaken from the punch. His knee went and he couldnt put any weight on it, it kept giving way. this is an indication of a cruciate issue probably from knee hyperextension.

An orthodox fight will have immense problems throwing anything but arm punches if he cant push down and pivot on his right leg, im sure this is the case.

I thought DDD did well to come back into it and get the W.

If you watch it again in slow motion, I'm of the opinion that he 'turned' his right ankle.

DDD did well to cope with the injury and then bomb Lerena out of there a couple of rounds later.

Without the ankle injury there would have been no trips to the canvas for Dubois and doubt Lerena would have made it into the 3rd round.

he got nailed high on the head and his legs went funny as a result. those punches are notorious for doing funny things to guys legs, but also for being ones you can recover faster from. yet again people making injury excuses for dubois

if a dude twists his ankle , f@cks his knee, it's quite incredible that he goes from barely able to stand to fine within a few minutes. aka total bullsheet

also - look at dub's own words ffs , he says he got hit and then suddenly his knees felt strange. pretty obvious what happened there

dubs said he got hit and then his knees immediately felt funny, why is it so hard for people to put 1 + 1 and get 2

it's also why he was able to recover quickly, if you suffer some bad knee injury that certainly isnt happening within a minute or two. he probably wouldnt even be able to make it out of the ring on his own

and of course we already saw dubs put himself on the canvas when in distress vs joyce, we know it's a protective move for him when it's getting too hot. we know he said his knees went funny when lerena punched him. put it together and what you had was dubs in distress again, from a shot high on the head scrambling him, doing the same move we'd already seen him pull when in bother in a previous fight

and then it explains how he recovered in the time he did, you get your legs back far quicker from a shot up high than when you f@ck your knee

if you want a guy truly f@cking his leg, watch haye-bellew

Dubois certainly got preferential treatment, but I wouldn't say the fight was fixed to the extent that Kevin Lerena was 'in on it'.

This was my take of it being ‘fixed’

Lerena doesn’t need to be in it.

It was a screw job.

Ref knew, as soon as Lerena is in trouble. Stop the fight.

When the WBO had it ion their rules it used to be part of their title fights in the UK. I can specifically remember Reg Gutteridge on ITV saying "the three knockdown rule is in effect" back in the 90s and I'm pretty sure Eamon Loughran lost his world title on a three knockdown TKO in Liverpool.

I agree with you that it should be chalked up as an NC.

The referee let's Dubois throw after the bell. It looks like he jumps in when he realises Dubois has ignored the bell and is still trying to unload combinations.

So the round has officially ended. And then the red just says, nope fight over. :stop:
Lerena didn't even fall into the ropes until after the round ended and he was hit with the left hook and then grazed with a right.

Add in the early end to the round with 10 seconds to go after three KDs and it looks like a fix.

Btw the Joshua one against Usyk wasn't actually the time keeper calling it early. The TV clock was started late. The referee signalled for the bell at start of the 12th. But the fighters didn't step forward, so he then (as I far as I can remember) starts insisting the fighters come out of their corners to fight. Then the TV clock starts, and it is 10 seconds behind. Then at the end of the round the 10 second clacker goes. Then the bell goes. By the TV clock looks like it went early. But the round was actually 3 minutes long from bell to bell (might have been a second early, but not the 10 that TV viewers thought).
Edit (CORRECTION): the TV clock was about 7 seconds behind, but it was 3 minutes bell to bell.

This one however, most definitely was ended 10 seconds early. They basically rang the bell instead of giving a ten second warning.

So, yeah, I agree with you. Too many dodgy events in this fight to be overlooked for me.

Not sure it was a fix but I think there were some very contentious officiating.

Dubois clearly hurt part of his leg as in the corner they were discussing putting strapping on it, at which point someone highlighted that they wouldn't be allowed to.

The stream I was watching was cutting the bottom of the screen off, so I wasn't able to see at what time the bell rang. However, looking at clips I've seen since, it clearly went early. Corruption or incompetence?

As for the stoppage, I argued on here on the night that I felt the stoppage was BS. There's no doubt that had the bell not rung, Dubois would have legitimately stopped Lerena and there would probably be no arguments. He was clearly on top and Lerena was taking some heavy shots.
My argument was that the bell had rung and I felt that Lerena deserved to go back to his corner and regroup. Chances are it might not have given him enough time and he would've been stopped early in the next round...but who knows, he might have recovered well enough to run from Dubois for the next three minutes.
Foster was too quick to wave it off IMO and I doubt that he'd have done that had it been Dubois under attack.

As for DDD, he looked very vulnerable once he'd been tagged and bad leg or not, he looked like he didn't want to be there and that is quite worrying.

I was pissed at the ref in Wilder v Ortiz 2 waving it off when Ortiz looked to beat the count, being well ahead on the cards, with the round having ended. This was much, much worse.

You can't advertise this as a world title fight, and then screw the challenger like that. An unnecessary black eye for British Boxing.

Would have to watch it again, as it looked like he just fell over for one of the 'knockdowns'. Knee based I guess, assuming that was genuine :maybe:
