He was still competitive ten years later against McCall. He had plenty left in the tank when he fought Spinks. Michael seams to only get remembered for his only loss, not the back to back wins over a Hall of Famer.

Spinks had an ungainly fighting style which worked well against Holmes. He was a great LHW but nobody ranks him highly at HW and for good reason. Besides an old Holmes and a drugged up Cooney that was also well past his best, there's nobody else of note that he fought at HW

Apart from that moment, Holyfield didn't had many problems. The final flurry was savage. Yet Cooper wasn't that bad, he was inconsistent. He quit against Foreman, but gave hell to Mercer and Moorer.

Depends which Larry Holmes you're talking about. Because after 1982, Holmes was not the same fighter. He was slipping each year since 1983.

I'm one of the minority of people who don't think Spinks got a gift vs Holmes. So his bonafides at HW are credible.

That said, Bowe would beat MS pretty comprehensively. Probably stops him in the mid rounds.

Ok, what I can say about it: Bowe made a fight, he was pressing forward and edging with the effective work. Neither one provided significant amount of damage. Tubbs showed decent defence, but he wasn't willing to go out of his shell and take a fight. He hasn't imposed his game on Bowe and was less effective. Bowe won it 96-94-ish or 97-93-ish based on dictating the action of this lackluster affair.

I must apologise, my father-in-law was in hospital over Christmas and New Year, so I didn't get the fight watched as promised. I'll get to it.

96-94 Tubbs for me. Tubbs caught so many of Bowe's jabs. Not sure what the commentators were watching.
