I watched some of the John Murray interview, he was with Hennessy, multiple British and Euro defences, world title shot, big fights against Crolla and Mitchell, said he cleared about 350k over 12 years with Mitchell being the biggest one for 55k minus deductions.
If boxing is your full time job your are earning a good bit less than nurses.
The only way to make money in boxing is to have it as an extra job.
Boxers just don't earn a lot of money.

but you forget that in those days they boxed more actively, that is, more often. Back then, a boxer had over 60 fights, and today? Fury won't have more than 35 when he finishes. So they could afford to reach for simple supers in those days.

Price will have earned fortunes in comparison to Murray.
I’ve heard Maloney give interviews in the past saying he was on some serious money. I think Price not making it pretty much finished Maloney’s boxing career off. He put a lot into it & heavily backed him.
Setanta & Hayemaker will have paid a lot to get him in the first place as well. He was in demand after the Olympics.
I’d be shocked if he hadn’t made 2 million plus.
Dallas, McDermott, Sexton, Audley, Skelton & Thompson x2 were all headline fights in Liverpool. Povetkin & Kuzmin were chief support on PPV cards. He got over 100k for the Teper fight in a gym in Germany. And then Allen & Chisora will have been big pay days too on PPV cards.
He also kept costs to a minimum. Trained local, didn’t have big name sparring partners over & for the majority of his career had his mates in Liverpool train him.

Fury is the biggest grifter in the sport, if he could get away with it and earn millions in the process he would 100% do it, he's just fought Chisora.

I've listened to this. He just asks Kugan if he thinks those fights would sell. Fury thinks they'd be sell outs. They're just chatting, making conversation. I think it starts off with Fury talking about having a trilogy with McDermott, but then when McDermott is revisited later he's already changed his mind and is talking about Haye and Price and Joshua, talks vaguely about them getting back in the gym.
I wouldn't mind seeing those fights as tick-over fights anyway, in all truth. If that's what Tyson Fury was going to do: have big fights against genuine top tier guys (Usyk, Joyce, AJ, whoever else comes up) bookended with fights with old names... Really, that wouldn't be so awful. So long as he fought actual challenges too. Those fights would still be fun.

Teper only came later on after the split from Maloney after the Thompson defeats.
Maloney wasn’t a big payer in general but he went all out to get Price & Jeffries beating other promoters to their signatures & lost a fortune.
Maloney got Lennox involved for one fight but he spent the majority of his career in Liverpool been trained by his mates.

Fury said a fight with Price was agreed, 1 million each was the payday. Price had to get past Thompson and Fury had to get past Cunningham. We all know what happened.

One of my regrets is that the Price/Fury fight didn't happen, around the time Fury did the big stiff plumber interview on C5 it seemed it was on. Price would have been favourite and if it had happened before the Thompson fight the odds would have been good on a Fury KO win
