if he's to continue, it should be at no less than 168

unless he cherrypicks lower level or end of the road fighters like williams , he can only look forward to some good beatings from the likes of a smith rematch / most decent middleweights / benn obviously and maybe even Kell would fancy it , these fights could earn decent money but really one more obliteration like that and the games up .

It’s way too early to be writing him off. He is now what he always was, a fringe world level operator whose love him or hate him persona brings dollars to the table.

Maybe he got old overnight and will never recover or maybe two pretty much back to back camps debilitated him enough to temporarily take away his punch resistance. Either way he’s probably more sellable now than he’s ever been so no doubt we’ll see him in two or three more big domestic scraps before he hangs up his gloves.

I kind of agree but we won't find out anything about Junior with his Dad around...

I think there is a lot going on behind that defeat:-

- Weight fluctuation. We’ve seen before what that can do.

- I don’t know if it’s to do with the weight, but he was definitely gun shy. On the slow motion replays you can see him blinking as he pulled out of shots.

- He’s caught in-between styles. He has lost the very thing that made him a decent level operator.

- He has a lot going on in the background by all accounts. Lost his brother - and his dad seems to be on a a slippery path. It can’t have been easy having such an unpredictable figure around. I think he has dealt well with it over the years - neither encouraging or discouraging his behaviour.

- Liam Smith is actually pretty good!

More generally, I don’t think he lives and breathes boxing like the Smith brothers. That might sound odd given his heritage, but he seems to have a lot of other things going on. He is also very level headed and considered - after the defeat he was discussing it in a very matter of fact manner, rather than being gutted/hot headed.

At first I thought maybe weight drained but he was 159 on the scales and had videos of himself eating KFC etc beforehand. RJJ doesn’t seem to think his weight was an Issue either. Maybe he just didn’t train as hard as he should have and just got caught. He is pretty cocky so maybe just underestimated Smith. Time will tell I guess.

I think you are right - he wasn’t drained for this fight. But he has fluctuated around lately and did that ghost weigh in for the Benn fight.
