even for the most physically blessed who on top of that took the utmost care in living like a professional should, late 40's is at latest the point of no return where your body (specifically the legs) will tell you it's time to hang em' up.
some get the first signals in their early thirties, the youthful spring in the legs that you need to be as agile and elusive as necessary to compete in boxing against younger men, is naturally diminishing and until 40 most professional boxers got the message and accept that one simply can't turn back the clock.

I recall seeing on Boxrec that Oliver McCall was fighting again in 2018-2019 aged 54. Two fights, he won them both. I assume COVID lockdowns robbed us of a title tilt.

Also recent studies on brain shrinkage and fluidity inside the skull due to the aging process make boxing even more dangerous the older you get.
I will always wonder if that was partially to blame for the horrors Adonis Stevenson went through after what was to be his final fight in his early 40's.
