If he's making another couple to fight Loma in his first defence, I can't begrudge that either.
You can't begrudge anyone making it , But you can raise your eyebrows and think there a knob for flaunting it

Re: Devin Haney vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko | Sky Sports - 20 May 2023
Press Release | Undercard
A world title fight and the grandson of “The Greatest” take center stage on Saturday, May 20 as part of the ESPN-televised prelims to the PPV main event headlined by undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney’s title defense against former pound-for-pound king Vasiliy Lomachenko at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The two-fight telecast is headlined by the vacant WBO junior bantamweight world title showdown between Australia’s former world champion Andrew Moloney and Japan’s undefeated former WBO flyweight titlist Junto Nakatani.
Opening the broadcast will be undefeated middleweight prospect Nico Ali Walsh, grandson of Muhammad Ali, in a scheduled eight-rounder against a to-be-determined foe.
Moloney-Nakatani and Ali Walsh’s return will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
The Haney vs. Lomachenko main card will stream live on Top Rank on ESPN+ PPV, the event’s exclusive digital distributor in the United States, beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. Additionally, it will be available via cable and satellite pay-per-view providers and is priced at $59.99 across all distributors.
The PPV undercard features a 10-round junior lightweight co-feature between two-division world champion Oscar Valdez and Adam “BluNose” Lopez in a rematch of their 2019 battle.
In the PPV opener, rising lightweight Raymond “Danger” Muratalla will take on big-punching Namibian contender Jeremia Nakathila in a 10-round clash.
Moloney (25-2, 16 KOs) hopes to become a two-time world champion in the city where Joshua Franco upset him by unanimous decision back in June 2020. The two fought twice more, with a controversial no contest and second Franco decision victory closing the chapter on their trilogy. Following the third Franco fight in August 2021, Moloney regrouped in December 2021 with a clear points victory over Froilan Saludar. In 2022, he fought three times, including a pair of homecoming appearances on the Devin Haney-George Kambosos Jr. cards in Melbourne, Australia. Moloney, ranked No. 2 by the WBO at 115 pounds, earned the title shot with a 10-round decision over Norbelto Jimenez last October for the WBO International strap.
WBO No. 1 junior bantamweight contender Nakatani (24-0, 18 KOs), a 25-year-old southpaw from Inabe-gun, Mie, Japan, ranks among the hardest lighter-weight punchers in boxing. An eight-year pro, Nakatani captured the vacant WBO flyweight world title in November 2020 with an eighth-round knockout over Giemel Magramo. Nakatani defended his flyweight crown twice, bloodying and stopping Angel Acosta in four rounds and knocking out Ryota Yamauchi in eight. He vacated his title to move up to junior bantamweight and scored a one-sided decision over former unified world champion Francisco Rodriguez Jr. last November.
Ali Walsh (8-0, 5 KOs) moves up to his first scheduled eight-rounder nearly two years removed from his pro debut. He made his Las Vegas debut last April at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, obliterating Alejandro Ibarra with a left-right combination in the first round. Ali Walsh righted the only blemish on his record last August, stopping Reyes Sanchez in the second round of their rematch with a body shot. Sanchez lost a majority decision to Ali Walsh in December 2021. He made his 2023 debut in February, outlasting the rugged Eduardo Ayala en route to a convincing six-round unanimous decision.

It'll be a tremendous win for whoever comes out on top here. My money's on Haney.
Lomachenko will take some rounds, and have some moments, but I think he's getting past it to be able to keep it up for 12 rounds.

The size difference man! Loma giving up way too much to fight these guys. If it wasnt for the insurmountable difference in reach and height i think loma would still be too good for haney, but like against Lopez, he is just giving himself way too much to do.
Hes going to be competetive still but i dont think there is a way for him to win. Hope i'm wrong.

Excited to see Moloney v Nakatani, should be a fun fight but going to be tough for the Aussie, Naka is a beast. Would love Loma to produce a masterclass but as others have alluded to I can't see past Haney with the size, youth and no small amount of ability to go with it.

Re: Devin Haney vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko | Sky Sports - 20 May 2023
I think Haney is overrated bigtime. Loma has the superior skillset. When it comes to overall speed Loma has an advantage. Haney is flashy and athletic but it's not like he's bringing Mayweathers skillset to the table. He's utilising mobility and being elusive but he's not a power puncher and he's not the most elusive either. I think he is predictable in what he has to offer offensively but it's the overall athleticism that is his biggest attribute. He's up against a better athlete now. We have seen him hurt. I think Loma will be able to be effective in getting to Haney and will take over the fight by the midway point.

How is he flashy exactly? He throws about 50 punches a round mostly jabs and seldom throws combinations. Sure he’s fast, but he’s hardly showing meldrick Taylor hands every time he lets them go. Flashy Devin he’s probably the most conservative fighter in the top 20

Re: Devin Haney vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko | Sky Sports - 20 May 2023
He's flashy to me because he throws a lot of single shots from range that catch the eye. The jab and single straight right from range are his bread and butter. It looks flashy. Hands down, a lot of feints and head movement, single fast shots. It's kind of the definition of flashy really. Not sure why you used a lot of smilies like a 15 year old girl also.
Basically Haney has no inside game at all either. It's all fast flashy stuff from range and then constant clinches and resetting. I don't think it's good enough to beat a technician like Loma myself. It's a limited offensive game and his athleticism and reflexes allow him to pull it off. He is not going to be getting the breathing room he likes as the fight wares on and he gets hit. The constant clinching could be a problem is the ref is allowing it though. His path to victory is a decision where he potshots, runs for most of the fight, initiates about 100 clinches and gets away with it and probably gets the benefit of a contentious decision. Just my opinion anyway.

I like Haney, think he’s a good kid, though find him a bit boring to watch, you know it’s gonna be UD most every time - not sure he’s that good though - Loma might have too much all round game for him, he’s smaller yes, but unlike the Lopez fight, he doesn’t have to fear a huge punch catching him..should be a close fight and Loma might take it
Re: Devin Haney vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko | Sky Sports - 20 May 2023
Loma is as good as anyone I've seen in my lifetime. But he's past his best by a few years and should not be operating this high up.
Why do Mayweather, Davis, Alvarez get away with all these bastardised weight stipulations and Loma doesn't? He's not getting rep'd as he should. Or they just want to feed him to bigger fighters.

I said Loma was a better athlete and you are still banging on about me saying Haney was a great athlete. Fast sharpshooters from the outside are considered flashy. Who cares if hes black or white. Obviously you are trying to say I'm racist or something. It's getting boring at this point so I will bow out and let you continue the 15 year old girl routine you are enjoying. And yes I'd consider Meldricks combos flashy as hell to be honest but its not everything. I would take Starling to beat him for example.Counter-puncher wrote: ↑16 May 2023, 04:09throwing single shots is flashy now? .TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑15 May 2023, 23:33 The jab and single straight right from range are his bread and butter. i promise you I'm not.
you just have a very strange idea of what is flashy, but never mind, I go with the crowd-pleasing 'flashy' clinching game myself, so now I can say I had a 'flashy' style instead of being just a shite Matthew barney
