Ian Darke is another who was really good, him and Jim Watt made a really excellent pair.

Darke was one of the best in my opinion, knowledgable, consicise, and also able to provide the right level of excitment at the right time.

Can't stand Bunceys commentary, just hate the way he squeals like someone has grabbed his bollox.

Big fan of Bunce - he's put in the hard yards and is constantly walking a tightrope between boxers and promoters. Far from an easy job. His columns in BN are the best thing in there and love the podcast. He's always enthusiastic. Not saying he's perfect as sometimes he does this annoying cackle when speaking to people that winds me up.

Someone mentioned Hauser. He recently went to York Hall and his feature was appallingly written - was basically a rehash of quotes. You wouldnt catch Bunce trying to file that sort of dog water.

I mean in terms of his reporting role. He's interviewing rivals on all sides, often in direct conflict with each other.

There's so many agendas/beefs in boxing I would imagine a full time genuine roving reporter role in boxing is hard to maintain in a meaningful way.

Bunce is a proper journo, so he needs output to satisfy, say, the BBC. But he also needs to get through the door constantly for interviews. That's a balancing act, not something we see in action but surely something he has to manage/navigate constantly.

He's a pen for hire. I'm not blaming him for that, it's his livelihood and how he sends his kids to posh schools (as do I incidentally) and provide for his family.
