Have I got things badly wrong myself, i do not blame Shalom one little bit, he has chanced his arm & at times come up short, I am sure he islearning everyday.

No booked shows on boxrec…. There’s shows that exist but not locked in enough to be schedualed here…

I hate how bad boxrec scheduling has gotten (promoters fault probably) use to be able to see way into the future, now fvck all is on boxrec.

Matchroom are the same. Crazy really. In today’s environment where people are struggling to pay their bills, you’d have thought you’d want to give as long as possible to promote and sell a boxing show.

The Marshall show on Sky and Sunny Edwards show on Dazn must have been absolute financial disasters. Big venues, very, very poor ticket sales. I'm tempted to mention the Dalton Smith card too due to ticket giveaways. Not a sustainable business model unless you're propping these up through profits elsewhere

Are Sky that bothered about boxing anymore? They might be happy with the odd card now and then while the scene in the UK develops.

As for Ben Shalom, seems so flat and fake to me. Same answers to every question, delivered with a fake smile and monotone voice. Who is the matchmaker for Boxxer? The cards have been very poor, bar a couple of fights, with fighters being overhyped to death.

You'd think fighters like Lauren Price, Adam Azim and Ben Whittaker were the second coming of Ali..

I think that is half the problem, the talent pool just isn't there right now. IMO UK boxing is in a transitional stage while the next stars come through. We might be waiting a while yet though.

Your right Spud,Mick did have his argumu. There were many other factors involved. Every one of those promoters working with the BBC at that time were also having arguments about the same thing. More money and more dates imo. The BBC just had enough in the end imo

I followed Dave Walker as he was up the road from me. Great entertainer.

On another point raised, few years ago it seemed “Matchroom” shows were the “place to be” and I found it strange that they seemed to far out sell Queensbury shows which were as good or sometimes better.
Current times are tough with a lot of competition for your Buck, a lot of shows are fairing below par at the moment…

Useless, he's invested to0 heavily in none ticket sellers, fighters people don't like and womens boxing.

Do you think ppv sort of killed boxing a bit. Like naturally boxers need to be paid and ppv is good because they can get paid well for putting their health on the line, but you had an issue a few years ago where you had ppv fights that shouldn't have been. I remember the Hennessey shows on itv. He had some very good fights for domestic titles that were evenly matched. John Thaxton had some good fights. John O'donnell and Craig Watson. Froch v Pascall. It just felt like he couldn't get it to the next level

But he can't promote himself so how can he expect to promote boxers?

Fwank and Eddie have presence on screen. I'd love to have a boozy lunch with either and talk/argue boxing. They both seem like a genuine good time. Fwank's sons come across well too.

But Ben... How has he become a boxing promoter? I don't know anything about him. I wish him luck and I'm sure he can improve but right now he seems flat.

I don't see why Sky have this exclusivity contract with one promoter. Years back they had multiple promotions cards on Sky.

As for Shalom he's mediocre at best. 4-5 about right. Seems very wooden personality for a promoter too. But he's young in the game he's still only in his twenties right?

I still give him a chance to be a decent promoter.

Absolutely, hand someone a near monopoly on the sport ! Can’t see how that can be any good for developing competition between promoters / customers final product !

It worked well for Sky under Matchroom though. Sky boxing had never crossed over so well to the casual audience.

We tend to reminisce about the sport c.20 years ago. Ultimately though the majority of shows were in leisure centres and were of a poor quality. There used to be loads of shows though with at least one show a week on Sky for the bulk of the year.
