Re: Overtime Boxing | DAZN - August 2023
Gotta say all their main events have been entertaining, love the extra round in the event of a draw concept as well, no place in boxing for draws although having an extra round 5 minutes after a 10/12 round war probably isn't advisable but 4/6/8 rounds I'm all for it, keeps fighters careers moving forward

Vladimir Hernandez Outworks Lorenzo 'Truck' Simpson, Wins Upset Majority Decision in OTX Boxing Main Event
Vladimir Hernandez pulled off another big upset.
The free-swinging spoiler outworked former amateur standout Lorenzo ‘Truck’ Simpson over eight rounds to take a majority decision win. One score of 76-76 was overruled by cards of 78-74 and 79-73 for Hernandez in their DAZN-aired main event Friday evening at Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
Hernandez entered the fight best known for his decision victories over Alfredo Angulo and former unified junior middleweight champ Julian ‘J-Rock’ Williams in back-to-back fights. The veteran southpaw from Stockton, California by way of Durango, Mexico had been out since a sixth-round knockout loss to red-hot Jesus Ramos last Febraruy 5 in Las Vegas.
Ring rust wasn’t at all a factor for Hernandez in terms of his punch output. Simpson spent most of the opening round working nearly every inch of the compact 18’ ring and force Hernandez to follow him around for much of the frame, though his lack of activity set an early tone for a harsher reality once the scores were read at fight’s end.
The Baltimore southpaw—a stablemate of unbeaten knockout artist and pound-for-pound entrant Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) found his desired openings in round two and landed several left hands. Hernandez was forced to take an uppercut to the body, which put the normally high-volume puncher on the defensive as Simpson grew bolder in fighting at close range.
Hernandez turned the tide in a big way in round three. A right hook by the Mexican spoiler forced Simpson to cover up, though he relied on slick head movement to avoid any significant follow-up shots. Hernandez landed a couple of left uppercuts that split the tight guard of Simpson, who put his infighting skills to use to slip most of the incoming after tasting Hernandez’s power.
Both boxers landed digging body shots in round five. Simpson moved directly toward Hernandez and launched a right hook downstairs after a hook and left and got through upstairs. Hernandez responded moments later with a sweeping left hand to the body, which Simpson took well when his peek-a-boo defense wasn’t enough to pick off his busier opponent. Simpson landed a left hand late in the round.
Hernandez let his hands go early in round seven, urged by his corner to continue to outwork Simpson. He enjoyed success early in the round but was forced to rely on his chin as Simpson landed a monster right hook midway through the round. Hernandez remained upright and snuck in a shot of his own moments later. Simpson continued to walk down Hernandez and landed a left hand to the chin.
Simpson opened the eighth and final round with a left hand over the top of Hernandez’s guard. Hernandez threw caution to the wind and managed to get through Simpson’s tight defense. Simpson landed a left hand at close quarters, and rode out a volley from Hernandez to land a combination in the closing seconds of an entertaining main event.
A valiant effort by Hernandez propelled his ring mark to (14-5 6KOs) with perhaps the best win of his journeyman career. Simpson was a decorated, world class amateur and with a lot of hype surrounding his pro career but leaves Atlanta with his record now at (13-1 7 KOs) as loses for the first time since 2018 in the final stage of his amateur career.

Andreas Katzourakis Overcomes Early Knockdown, Stops Raphael Igbokwe In 8th Round
Andreas Katzourakis went deeper than ever before to earn his latest knockout—and some extra cash on top of his paycheck.
The unbeaten Greek junior middleweight overcame an early flash knockdown to overwhelm Raphael Igbokwe en route to an eighth-round stoppage. A barrage of punches by Katzourakis forced referee Malik Waleed to stop the bout at 2:15 of round eight in their DAZN-aired co-feature Friday evening at Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
Katzourakis entered the fight confident that he would collect the OTX-offered knockout bonus. It was Igbokwe who struck first, however, as a pair of left hand sent Katzourakis to the canvas roughly 30 seconds into the contest. The Los Angeles-based prospect—who fought at middleweight as a one-off just to accommodate Igbokwe—smiled as he rose to his feet and rode out a subsequent volley by Igbokwe to seize control before the end of the round.
Igbokwe avoided a knockdown call late in round one when he sold referee Malik Waleed on a low blow. The damage appeared to come from a straight right hand just above the beltline but was ruled low.
Katzourakis still used the sequence as a momentum swing as he quickly seized control of the fight. Igbokwe was never able to recapture the magic enjoyed early in the fight as he was outgunned and consistently beaten to the punch for the balance of the fight. Katzourakis walked down the Houston-based boxer in rounds two and three and landed with straight right hands as he kept Igbokwe pinned against the ropes.
A right hand by Katzourakis rocked Igbokwe early in round five. A follow-up volley by the 25-year-old proved detrimental as he appeared to have punched himself out. Igbokwe was able to land a few left hands late in the frame though just enough to back off Katzourakis.
Igbokwe enjoyed pockets of success in rounds six and seven after he ran out of ring space and was forced to fight back. Katzourakis continued to serve as the aggressor even after he at a straight left hand and rocked Igbokwe with an uppercut late in round seven. Igbokwe once again found his back pinned against the ropes but Katzourakis was unable to land anything of consequence.
That changed in a big way in the eighth and final round.
Katzourakis was determined to leave Atlanta with a knockout bonus and earned the supplemental check with less than a minute to go in the contest. Igbokwe was badly rocked as Katzourakis continued on the attack until Waleed had no choice but to stop the contest.
Katzourakis remained unbeaten and extended his current four-fight knockout streak as his record moved to 11-0 (9KOs). Igbokwe suffered his third straight defeat as he fell to 16-5 (7KOs).
Headlining the show, former amateur standout Lorenzo ‘Truck’ Simpson faces Vladimir Hernandez in a scheduled ten-round middleweight contest.

Re: Overtime Boxing | DAZN - August 2023
I had Hernandez winning 77-75, surprised at the 2 wide cards for him, looked a 77-75 either way or a draw, that old adage do you prefer the volume of Hernandez or the cuter punch picking of Simpson, both had their moments, Simpson began well working the jab and picking Hernandez off but Hernandez camr into things in the 2nd with pressure and volume, was getting his head on the chest of Simpson and throwing plenty, not always landing but keeping Simpson occupied, drilling multiple uppercuts through the middle of the guard, it was close both landed eye catching shots but Hernandez just about doing enough for me, Simpson guilty of staying in the pocket too long
