Can't blame anyone other than the WBO.
Mageee was never rated by the WBO, so I cant see how it can be their fault.

British boxing, eh?

Another twist in the farcical later career of Joe sadly really.

if ever a fighter had the skills but never took the opportunities it was he.

hopefully his hand is now forced to take the bigger matchups.

bet frank is seething tho, what are they gonna do be intresting if a non title affair goes ahead, also for magee, dont like him but he didnt deserve this.
Veit is of course the outsider. but look at his last fight, worldclass! :TU:

Just when we thought calzaghe couldn't possibly be any more of a miserable joke, frunk's waxworks pulls this gem out of the bag.

It's like they all sat down round a table and said

Frank: Right joe, in line with sport's network tradition we must go to new lengths to maintain our status in boxing as #1 farce.

Joe: How about I fight Brian Magee.

Frank: It's brilliant! But we can do better...

Joe: How about we sign a rematch with a guy I already badly knocked out, BEFORE fighting magee, while you publicly state that I'm looking for a big, easy, lazy, payday.

Frank: Good... good, but we can do more to rip people off, I think...

Joe: How about we call off the fight altogether.

Frank: Brilliant! But at what stage?

Joe: Well, we could call it off, a couple of days before the fight.

Frank: Joe, where would I be without you.

The Germans are saying they didn't call it off. I heard Joe was having trouble with the weight. Better cancelling I suppose than losing your title  fornicate the public in other words.

Warren would have known this rule already.

The purse bid was won 10 days ago, so on the 7th he would have known there was a problem....

a few interesting points:

a) Calzaghe is gonna make a career high purse against Veit
b) It could have been a non title fight if Calzaghe wanted it to be

Magee turned down the terms for a non title fight.

Funny how this was only announced the day before the fight. Their are going to be people going who have not heard the news and are going to be very pissed when they turn up and find E. Magee's comeback as the main event.

Can Sports Network honestly say that they didn't think this might happen and get it sorted and announce the fight was off earlier. Are they ripping people off or are they just THAT unprofessional in their dealings that they leave things this late?

to a) Mr. Allegedly and his frontman could learn from Europe´s best Promoter. If Calzone would be german he had about more than 20 million euros more on his bank account....

to b) completely wrong considering the official statements. Universum is desperately looking for a german world champion. they have none at the moment. :o

The WBO is a waste of time title.

Its not the belt its the fighters.

Joe needs to drop them and fight on. WBO needs fighters more than they need that paper weight!

Spot on. :TU:

Joe should of told the WBO where to go, fought Magee then moved up to 175lbs for a fight with Woods or Johnson etc.

Whats the point of holding a belt if it resticts your career.

without the belt, Calzaghe wouldn't be able to notch up defences so that when he retires he can say that he defended title x amount of times.

Also, the TV companies wouldn't be interested in him unless he had a belt, and Calzaghe knows that a fight against Johnson or even Woods is no formality. Both fighters are better than anyone Calzaghe has faced since Eubank, or maybe Reid was about the same level back then.
