This is the flagship boxing game. As such they should put every effort in to make the definitive all encompassing boxing game.
It's very easy to do so, and tailor it for everyone from the die-hard boxing nuts who want the realistic experience, to the casual player who wants a punch up. All you do, is have various modes, much like they always do.
At present, the career mode is far too basic, and the training is mind numbingly repetitive. It's too hard to begin with, and too easy once you've cracked it, and the types of training bear no relation to the stats they effect. For instance, the pads give you fornicating chin points!
If I was working on that game I could make it shit loads better. They've worked the physics engine out well, and the movement and basic gameplay is good, it's the finishing touches which let it down.

On the next fight night it would be good if they have a mode where you can actually pshycially train 8 weeks to prepare for a bout, boil down and make weight before getting in the ring and actually having a real fight. Its called the 'being a real pro boxer' mode. :P :P :P :P

fornicate you wouldnt wanna be calzagfe, train for 8 weeks for the fight to dissipate with an air of numbing inevitabilty.
that would be just like real life!

I wasn't in a 'games shop' I worked in a games design studio!
There is always room for improvement in a title, and the more details you have which mirror the original, the better the shelf life of the game.
As for it being fun, that's not true, they've gone some way to make it a simulation, that's why they are called 'sports simulations.' Anyone who has ever played a football management game will know what I mean.
I'm going to try and contact EA Sports actually, and see if I can get my ass on the consultancy team for it.
If it was just meant to be fun then it would just be like Super Punch Out or Mike Tyson's boxing.
You may think I'm being picky, but that's the point of good design. What EA sports have now is a very good game, but what they could have is a superb all-time classic on their hands.
I'd like to see it whereby you could have different managers/trainers/promoters who would improve your fighter, get them more money, or get them bigger fights than otherwise, but who would all obviously cost you money. They've kind of done this with the entourage, but right now there really isn't anything to spend money on except trunks and gloves and stuff.

JAMES ITS A GOOD GAME OK THATS ALL IM INTERESTED IN YOURE BORING ME NOW.
IS IT FUN, IS IT REALISTIC ENOUGH AND DOES IT ENTERTAIN ME.
im sure someone somewhere is interested in your past as a blockbuster games specialist past but it aint me mate.

Are you trying to gee me up? "Blockbuster games specialist?" I didn't work at blockbusters you cheeky get!
All I am saying is there are still room for improvements. If it wasn't for the fact that they've made improvements from fight night 1999 onward, you wouldn't be enjoying the current version so much.

Can't afford to buy this 'till next week!
Glad the AI's improved on this one, after a while the game became too easy, even on hard. All you had to do was dodge and counter them to fornicate.

Just scored a lovely knockout, sparked Mayorga with my created fighter Junior Witter. Mayorga took a right pasting.
The create a boxer is much improved I've got this boxer looking like the spit of Witter.
Anyone played as Hatton yet? The Hatton boxer on there is uglier than real life.

Hatton is pretty damn ugly on this game I agree. But I wanted this game to be realistic god damnit, why is Hatton not fat?!?! :x
I've always been crap at making characters on these types of games but I will be trying to make Witter as well, I also want to do Samuel Peter, Trinidad, Tszyu and all the other 'top' heavyweights. It's done in such a way that you can't really tell other people how to make them though isn't it.

Can you ever knock people out cold if you catch them with a clean shot on this version, or do you still have to batter them with lots of shots and knock them down four times before the're out?

Why I oughtta!!
One thing they haven't got in the game, which I wish they did, is the ref. I know it sounds stupid, but I think it would add to the game or at least the atmosphere.
I know why the havent got him in there though, it would be very difficult to do well, and what would more likely happen is that the ref would end up0 colliding with the fighters and getting in the way all the time, or would get trapped in corners.
Maybe they could have it so the ref only appears when there is a foul to give a warning, or if when there was a cut a time out was taken and it showed your fighter being led to the corner. Be nice if you had a ref breaking up the clinches too.

I'd like it if the career mode was a bit more involved, if you could see your record (instead of just the WLD), and that of other fighters, so you could see who'd fought who. it would add a little realism. The training gets a bit tiresome and repetetive after a bit and the autotrain thing is too risky. Otherwise, it's great, by far the best boxing game I'vwe played, apart from Title Bout, which is a different sort of thing altogether.
