Also, bear in mind that not all of the charges will be criminal, just against the FA rules so it won't be criminal to assist on circumnavigating those rules. 'prestigious' does not equal unimpeachable.

the exact reason 'prestigious' organisations use these firms is the expectation of getting a bit of, uh, 'understanding' from the accountant.

They are big enough that they can afford the massive increases in professional indemnity insurance that go along with sanctions from the regulators.

Below a certain level firms have to play straight because they literally couldn't afford to do otherwise, PI-wise.

again, the very biggest firms can treat the extra costs of PI just like the fines from the regulators, as just the cost of doing business- which they pass on to their very rich clients, who know and accept that they pay over the odds, and why.

the idea that the figures must be correct because some big accountant was involved is hilarious.

the fees they charge and the ways they find to bump the fee up are insane, and the fees aren't created by paying their people *that* much more than industry standard, it's all the built-in costs of 'being a big firm'. Its a fvcking game, the client knows they are being overcharged but they pay for it anyway, for the 'other benefits' that the 'prestigious' accountants bring to the table.
