Whilst I agree that Shalom hasn’t done anything illegal on the face of it, it’s a bad look for him and Sky Sports.

Sky Sports aren’t going to like being questioned by The Times about dealings with a noted sports fixer and in 12 months or so they may just decide it’s not worth dealing with U.K. boxing when the Boxxer deal approaches it’s finish date.

If The Times are to be believed then Shalom was caught out lying a couple of times. Again, that’s not illegal but it’s also a bad look when you’ve been caught out lying about this kind of thing.

This fella i believe manages a few boxers , if they gave Boxxer a invoice and Boxxer paid by cash , nothing illigal there , unless its not gone through the books , but if invoices , and recipts are all on hand and everything is declared to the taxman , vat man ect ect , nothing really illigal about it is there , and just the answer , i paid my fighters out in cash , heres the invoices for payment theres the recipts they signed for it will suffice after all cash sign on fee's parents bought houses , cars being gifted , have been the norm in sports for a long time.

Over here EVERY single bank transaction over 5 grand has to be reported to the govt ,
interesting point, re your last sentence, I wonder if this adhered to knowing our banking sector's woes

Oh yes its deinetly adhered to used to be 10 grand but theychanged it a few years ago dole tax. Everone has access to it. Also you try to draw money out now they will ask whats it for large amounts they need notice about 3 years ago i clised an account 50 grand i wanted cash . At first they refused . Don't think i was clear actually , they did'nt refuse to give me money , it was cash they had the issue with , they did'nt want to give cash , , wanted to know what i wanted it for , they were insistant on a bank cheuque transfer , anything but cash , Funny thing is i actually accepted they give me a bank cheque but then the cheeky bastards wanted to charge me 15 dollars for it , , the argument started again , ended up getting the manager , who told me i can have cash , but i think it was a 4 day wait to get the cash in , they said, when they handed it over they needed to know why i wanted it , so i just said at first , because i want to hold 50 grand in my hand , , the head cashier came and said thats not considered a reason , so i said i need a penis extension , that sort of got a weird smile a funny look and a thats OK then .

Its not until you start telling people these stories you hear / find out about other people having problems with banks , there changing near me there all closing , and try and talk to someone regards your money , its make an appoinment to speak to the 17 year old kid to make an appoinment to get to see someone ,, there trying to push everything online now , 20 years ago i knew all the staff and the manager by first name , now the staff are never there more than 3-4 weeks and i don't even know who the manager is , I'm old fashioned i still use cheque books but they told me to get modern because there fazing them out now ,

That level of cash should definitely raise suspicion of money laundering.

It should be far easier to track that kind of stuff nowadays. I have spreadsheets with all my salary breakdowns, pensions, outgoings.

I think if you’re going to do keep track of that kind of thing then you will no matter what.

Well i'd have to concede your probably correct , but myself , i would'nt then or now know a thing about that stuff , good old fashioned cheque book plus an in and out book , the way my accountant shown me was my way to go , understandable and easy  ,, In fact one of the reasons i retired was because , my govt contract was up , and they wanted to give me another 10 year contract , BUT i had to go at least 5-6 times bigger overnight which would of meant a proper office , staff in the office , a warehouse , ect , , it scared the living shit out of me and i went back to something i have said all my life , A WISE MAN KNOWS HIS LIMITATIONS , so i said thanks but no thanks , whats more never regretted it , yet the young fella who took it on is now a millionaire many many times over , he had the education , i had the manual skills , just shown education is a good thing

Eddie Hearn is many things but he ain't daft, if he's willing to sue Boxxer and Sky I'll put my mortgage on him winning

Why Sky would give control of boxing to an inexperienced guy in his mid 20s is braindead, no surprise he's fumbled the bag, feel a bit sorry on him now tbh but like an ill dog he needs put out his misery
This is the same MR who have apparently sued Jake Paul and that has gone absolutely nowhere. It’s the same MR who also told Ricky Burns years ago that they had their solicitors review his contract with FW and he was clear to sign with them. What happened, the judge said that wasn’t correct, and Ricky was found in breach and ended up having to continuing punching for pay, when we was well past it. I am sure there are plenty of other examples of these type of situations.

Eddie has these solicitors on retainer- my guess is he smells blood and wants to try to rattle Boxxers cage that’s all. Remember, they have been trading solicitors letters for a while now.

This story/allegation will likely amount to nothing IMHO - the people that back Shalom are not idiots, they also have guys like John Wischhusen in the Team who used to be head of boxing at MR.

Will be interesting to see what happens with the matching rights case. In the US it’s all about money but that doesn’t mean it will be interpreted the same way in the U.K. Will make them completely pointless though.

The people that back Shalom may not be idiots but the fact Shalom will barely do an interview now because he can’t stop himself either lying or backing himself into a corner doesn’t help. Regardless of what he’s done with Mahmood, the fact Sky execs will be getting by calls from journalists about it isn’t a good thing.

Obviously that kind of thing will be ignored if things are flying but after a struggle for Sky Sports boxing last year and a lack of potential big PPV events this year, it could impact the likelihood of Sky Sports renewing their deal next year.

Another Times article making Shalom look dodgy. The fact his legal team said they didn’t agree with Boxxer’s statement is a real bad look.

He has. He spent a decent amount of time in prison for one of the biggest sports fixing scandals of the last 25 years.

Has he clearly done wrong in boxing? No. However the fact it’s reported he/people who represent him received £80k in cash from Boxxer isn’t a good sign for his integrity.

I understand your point about the cricket scandal.

But my point about is Mazhar has done nothing wrong with regards boxing.

I am extremely confident however that if boxers used Mazhar they will earn a lot more due to his negoitiation skills, he is outstanding.

Receiving payment by cash is not uncommon.

It is a Fact that a lot of boxers receive cash at shows. It is also a FACT that the majority of the BBBofC receive their expenses and fee by cash.

I know a boxer who received cash for appearances insisting on receiving the said payments in £50 notes.

Any ideas why he’d want to be taking money in cash rather than a bank transfer?

You’re probably right re: his negotiation. It sounds like he got good deals for Buatsi and Okolie from Sky and obviously is now working with Eubank.

Buatsi though is now involved in a legal dispute with Matchroom for breach of contract and from what I’ve been told Mazhar has caused issues with Eubank Jr and Sauerland which will likely go legal. Mazhar’s advice was that Sauerland are/would be taking too much and that’s the chief reason the Benn fight didn’t happen.

With regards to the £80 k cash problem …

Boxxer seem to be happy with the transaction.
Buatsi seems to be happy with the transaction.
Majeed seems to be happy with the transaction.

Who is the injured party?

I will state again Mazhar Majeed is a damn good negotiator and he seems to making good money for his clients.

So debating this further, it seems we are
Prepared to overlook fighters getting cheated of a decision by judges dodgy scoring.

We continue to support fighters who are former drug cheats.

We seem to forget promoters who brag shows are sell outs … but in reality fans are being cheated out of their money having to buy tickets at vastly inflated prices from ticket companies.

I’m guessing the suggestion is that HMRC will be the injured party.

However, if everyone has declared the payment correctly and in its entirety, there is nothing illegal here.

Perhaps they don’t like paying bank fees.
