I dunno mate and not many people would really know for sure. But I think that his brother Shane did say that once in an interview...
What Was The Reason For Tyson Fury Ducking David Price?

It's a shame he swerved the rematch with Vitali, the fight was definitely close enough to warrant it

Doofus, if you want people to stay on topic, why don't you tell us why Fury really ducked Price. Money? Risk vs reward?BigDoofus wrote: ↑02 Mar 2024, 10:27What’s Lennox Lewis got to do with it?jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑28 Feb 2024, 13:41

And ducked the Wlad (not Vitaly) rematch
What the previous poster slipped up on.
Doubt we’’ll get a coherent answer.

Reason he ducked Price ,, Ermmm , lets see , thinking cap on , giving it lots of thought , took about 10 seconds of serious thinking and the answer is ,, Same reason he ducked the Klitcko rematch , he ducked AJ , and he ducked Usyk ,, he's had a very well thought out carreer

Could well be.
John McD gave Fury all he could handle in their first fight, some saying he should have been given the nod.
Contrast that with Price smashing McD out in 90secs and....
Cue vacating of British title and obtaining a legal document to fight for the lesser regarded Irish title instead.

There was a period where Price was the goods and looked devastating. He was rushed into the Thompson fight and it was all downhill.
Re: What Was The Reason For Tyson Fury Ducking David Price?
Yeah that was fornicating silly. Thompson was top 5 at the time

Yep, Price went from being feared to offering no upside. Makhmudov might be the current example.
Re: What Was The Reason For Tyson Fury Ducking David Price?
Price will probably be one he regrets ducking , in hindsight Price was probably never the bogey man they feared , but it will always be there he ducked ,, Goes to show a lot of his carreer really all about money first PRIDE SECONDGrilling Machine wrote: ↑03 Mar 2024, 22:44 Yep, Price went from being feared to offering no upside. I'm sure that Maloney didn't want the Thompson fight for Price.

Re: What Was The Reason For Tyson Fury Ducking David Price?
At the time Price looked a beast and Fury shat himself. Plain and simple.
Re: What Was The Reason For Tyson Fury Ducking David Price?
Minor point, but Chisora wasn't really a ranked challenger. His win over Pulev still had him outside the top 15. He was quietly nudged up the rankings into the WBC top 15 after Fury first showed interest in fighting him to get around their rules. (So he likely always planned to fight Chisora and not Joshua)Crease wrote: ↑01 Mar 2024, 05:36 I think looking at Tyson's career in general, his supporters and critics both take things to the extremes...
His critics don't actually get him enough credit for defeating Wlad and Wilder (multiple times) away from home. You do have to say that they are outstanding achievements no matter how you dress it up. I even give him credit for accepting his mandatory (Whyte) and dispatching of him handily, then defeating Chisora... Granted he already beat him, but Del Boy was a ranked challenger and there wasn't many options at the time, when most were tied up in upcoming fights...
His supporters, even the strongest of them have to admit that there are some of them opponents who had no right being in the ring with Tyson - particularly Seferi and Schwarz... And i'd also probably throw in Wlad's old sparring partner, Pianeta - he had been done for years at the top level.
So yeah, a balanced approach is probably the best way to look at it. A top fighter with some great wins, but he also fought some very limited guys...
It was actually an active Kabayel who lost his place to Chisora. Kabayel who also had the beating of Chisora, I might add.
So Fury doesn't deserve credit for that fight. It was a soft touch (quick money grab) fighting a shop worn opponent in a dead rubber match. There were other options in that top 15 at the time.
I agree with you on Wlad and Wilder though.
But he ducked Price
Re: What Was The Reason For Tyson Fury Ducking David Price?
I was talking about the BoxRec rankings - which people consider far more objective and any of the four title rankings, which are easily manipulated by sanctioning fees...
Re: What Was The Reason For Tyson Fury Ducking David Price?
Oh really? I'm surprised to hear that you were referring to them to be honest. Most boxing fans I have come across don't give them much thought as they are generally way off kilter. Current Scene has been running its own heavyweight rankings for years because of this (who did have in at #9 in fairness to you!
Though I agree, Boxrec are kind of objective in the sense that it is an algorithm.
But, case in point, I don't think many (if any) would say 6th was a true reflection of Chisora's standing in the division. Neither TBRB or the Ring had ranked him for years. Chisora at that time was coming off three losses and one win against Pulev who himself had been plying his trade in Triad (non-)boxing events post Joshua.
So, again, Chisora wasn't really a "ranked" contender as most would interpret using one of the Ring, TBRB, or as I said before the WBC. So Fury doesn't really deserve credit for beating an even older version of a guy for a third time he already had the beating of in fights one and two.
But sure he was ranked by Boxrec, that is true.
p.s. I suspect they are manipulated by the influence of certain promoters, though. There have been a few fingers on the scales (algorithm) over the last few years that always seem to fall the same way. Maybe just a string of coincidences...
But Boxrec is great for record keeping!
Re: What Was The Reason For Tyson Fury Ducking David Price?
Agreed, and if he really wants to try and cement himself in history as a great champion, he has a long way to go still. He would need a win against Joshua next, then the winner of Zhang/Parker, and a win over a live upcoming contender like Hrgovic perhaps. Then i'll give him proper dues.jamesmcdonnell wrote: ↑28 Feb 2024, 14:11
If he's to redeem himself, at least a bit, he has to beat Usyk, and do it convincingly.

Beating an over the hill Wlad.
Chiz x 3
Wilder (banger but terrible boxer) x 3
And a Middleweight. ?
Nearly there
You are right. He needs to demolish AJ. Then Zhang/Parker.
Then credence where its due.
Re: What Was The Reason For Tyson Fury Ducking David Price?
I know, I can well remember. I'm not saying that the ranking system is perfect (everyone will have their own rankings, who is ahead of who - that sort of thing) but as long as the right candidates are up there in the mix, I don't have any major hangups about it.
