You make beating Marquez sound like the easiest thing in the world. He may not be an exciting fighter but he is a good one. Morales took a narrow decision over Pac. Marquez if it wasn't for the horrible start to his fight with Pac would have won handily and some argue that he won the fight anyway. I reckon the fight would be Morales being the aggresor and Marquez sitting back and countering. I could see it going either way. Underrated fighter is Marquez just because he isn't exciting.
Agreed on Marquez. In fact, I LOVE watching him box and I predicted he'd KO Pacman. However, I think Morales can beat him. I'm thinking more and more about this fight though and it's getting more and more even every time I think of it. I'd slightly favour Morales at this point, but it would be very close.
Remember that Marquez beat Pacman in MANY people's eyes, even though the first round was 10-7 or 10-6?

That's because he had unfinished business with Barerra and wants to clean out the lower division before he moves up. He will move up eventually, he has said as much. If he beat Coralles or Cassa, that would be something else.
When Morales has grown into a LW, I would favour him over Hatton.
HE won't grow into 140 ever, thats like saying when Mayweather grows into Middleweight or Zoo grows into a LHW.
As good as his achievements are Morales career has always been carefully stage-managed and hes already turned down Cassa and Coralles at 130 why would he fight them at 135? He may move upto 135 but it will be when the divisions weak. He didn't move upto 126 until Hamed left.
Do you really think Morales avoided Hamed? Look at his career, he ducks no-one. He fights the best every time out. It's like when people criticise Oscar's career... all you have to do is look at his record on boxrec. Sure Oscar fought SOME fighters at the RIGHT time, but he fought everyone.
I find the thought of Morales running from Hamed or Cassa/Corrales completely hilarious.
135 is going to be live for a few more years at least. Corrales and Freitas aren't going anywhere and there are a few up and comers.
And Morales weighs something like 144 on fight night.

Hamed would have got a worse beating than he did off Barrera, In my opinion Morales is better than Barrera for the simple fact he has never been stopped and only lost to a true champion in Barrera.
I may get shit for this but CHAVEZ fought mostly bums for his first 60-70 fights and although he beat a few good fighters how many champions did he actually beat, I think that Sanchez was better than him and Morales will pass them both by the time he retires.

Morales is my favourite active fighter, I love his style, his ice cool poise, even the way the MC announces "From Tijuana, Meeeyhheeco", just love the whole thing.
But the best ever fighter from Mexico? Nah. Especially not when another active Mexican fighter currently holds a 2-1 lead over him. Although i agree with the chap who said he felt Morales won the first 2 fights, but that's another story.
Chavez and Sanchez above him for me, for now.
That said, wins over Barerra and Marquez plus maybe Freitas or Corrales might change that opinion.

Anyway, I reckon Barrera will go down in history as the better fighter than Morales. He beat Morales last november, and I think if they fight again, Barrera would win again! Barrera has his number!
Do not get me wrong, Morales is a great, great fighter and one of the best from mexico ever, but not THE best ever.

In a dream fight, at 126 who do you think would win
Erik Morales v Salvador Sanchez

Imagine Morales mixing it up with the fab 5: Chacon, Edwards, Choi, Navarrete, Arguello.

Morales is a league above Hamed., Maybe two leagues above.

Morales v Corrales is the one that's going to be big, if of course Corrales can keep on winning.
I wonder whether Morales' power will be enough at lightweight though, I know Corrales can be hurt but maybe not by Morales who isn't really a banger any more.
It's a fight I'd love to see.
Morales v Castillo is another, though I think Castillo may be too big and too tough at lightweight. Barrera looked too strong at Sr Feather, and Castillo is a naturally bigger man than Barrera.
It's worth thinking about the fact that Pacquaio may just be too far north of his best natural weight, after all the guy started at below bantamweight.

Holy shit! If we are going to say Erik Morales career has been 'carefully stage-managed' then we seriously might as well stop watching the sport right now. What a load of crap!

IMO, Vicente Saldivar (Beat Winstone 3 times.) & Salvador Sanchez were the best Mexican featherweights.
And yes Morales career has been 'carefully stage-managed' which is not a bad thing.
I also agree with jamesmcdonnell that Castillo & Corrales may be too big and strong at lightweight.
Casamayor will give him problems too. 8)

I'm not sure about the fighters who Morales was steered clear but I remember a fair debate showing Barrera had been forced to take the harder path.
Also I think Hamed would have beat Morales. Hamed lost to Barrera but so did Morales. I think it was just a bad style match up for Hamed and I don't buy the fact that Morales is a league above - look at comparative opponents - Hamed was ko'ing fighters in 2 that went 12 with Morales.
Tell me an opponent that Morales beat (other than Barrera) that a Prime Hamed would have any trouble with. I don't think Pacman could stay out the way of Hameds power. British fighters are talked down too much imo.

How would Hamed have beaten Morales who is a better counter puncher than Barrera and has longer reach and is just as strong. Hamed was a decent fighter but lacked heart and would have been beaten just the same way as Barrera beat him. You forgot to mention that every fight between Morales and Barrera have been close and could have gone either way but there was a huge margin between Barrera and Hamed.
Pacman and Hamed would be a great fight but could Hamed handle the pressure that Manny would put on him in the early rounds i don't know.
The thing is did Hamed beat any great fighters in there prime he lost to the first good fighter he fought and he couldn't have beaten any of the 3 good Mexican fighters in his division at the moment in my opinion.

One thing is for sure.
Neither Barrera or Morales want any part of Marquez, who may well be the best featherweight in the world.

Agreed.
They are a bit older than Mrquez as well are they not?

Barrera and Marquez are about the same age, Morales is younger, he's only 28!
You've got to feel sorry for Marquez, he's been avoided like the plague his whole career, Hamed avoided him, so did Barrera, and so has Morales.
You've got to hand it to Pacman, he only wants the very biggest fights, win or lose, he is willing to put his reputation on the line.
I'd love to see Marquez get a shot at someone big, looks like he will have to content himself with Chi, which isn't a big money fight, but would give him another belt. Needs a rematch with Pacquaio really though to really raise his profile. I think he wins second time around. Maybe then he can get a shot at Barrera, in what would be a big money fight.

Marquez doesn't want Pacman. He priced himself out.

That doesn't mean he doesn't want him. He was prepared to put his title on the line against him last time out for LESS money than was on the table.
He misjudged the worth of the fight, and Arum scuppered it by coming in and giving Pacman a shot at Morales instead.
The rematch probably will happen eventually, Pacman should move down to featherweight again, where he has more pop, and the rematch with Marquez is a natural, or a rematch with Barrera.

I'd rather see Pac v Chi than a rematch with Marquez. The Mexican is a solid boxer but he's not going to make a fight exciting if he can help it.

Barrera really needs that fight to clear his record.... although he tried to do that with Junior Jones too.... and failed

I think Barrera may well get done again if there's a rematch. Had a hunch Pac would do it the first time after I saw Barrera wearing a pink fred perry t-shirt at a press conference. Looked unfocussed in the build up (was this his first fight under GBP?) and also remember reading news reports of forest fires fornicating up his training camp (showed photos of Barrera in a makeshift ring). Everything was right for Pacman that night.
Saying all that... I still think a fit Manny gives him fits, might be closer and go to a decision though.

Morales would be more likely to get dragged into a war and catch a big shot - Barreras faster and a better counter puncher imo. On my card Hamed lost by about 2-3points from memory he won a few rounds in there and I believe could beat BArrera if he fought the right fight and was at his best.
Barrera wasnt the first GOOD fighter he fought - he fought loads of top fighters. You should look into some of the guys he fought - they werent ATGs but u cant be an ATG if you get beat by the best in the division can you? Maybe they'd be seen as great if Hamed hadn't beat them? Same as Hopkins now people say he hasnt beat greats but hes fought good opp.

I think Pac wins the rematch 115-112 (Barrera dropped early but is strong in middle rounds and shares late ones) 8)
