Clearly Eddie had a decent start in life, but you can’t knock what he has grown Matchroom Boxing into.

He (and presumably a well put together team around him) brought stadium fights back and adapted best, out of all UK promoters, to social media trends.

He might have been born with a silver spoon on his mouth, but he’s grown it to a full cutlery set.

The intrinsic value is the media dollars.
The middleman does just that. Takes a small slice. The fighters (hopefully) a bigger slice.
The main broadcaster much bigger and sells those rights?

I call BS. You can't make too many mistakes when you start off with hundreds of millions unless you are mentally unwell. His dad was there to give advice. He was able to get respect from everyone and every chance due to his dad's company. He walked onto sky and everything else. I give him no credit at all but I wouldn't begrudge him either. You can't choose what you're born into. The "I worked hard" BS is ridiculous. He'd have to have been a plum not to have carried on the family business and made money. There were fights in Wembley before he came along you know. Bruno did it already. His dad retired and still hasn't explained why he was in Epsteins book has he?

He’s explained it several times. He said he met Epstein at a party and was surprised Epstein had the office contact details in his book. I think one number was Barry’s number, one was the fax and the other was the head office reception.

I never heard that. I wouldn't be buying that myself but it is an explanation some would accept I suppose.

Bet each and every one of us are in the phonebook of someone they hardly know , its no big deal ,, I can't understand why i get facebook freind request of people i don't know i've never met , , not to long ago i got a message of someone asking why i had not accepted there freinds request , after all there reasoning was we had mutual freinds which we did , i answered him and told him , if you want to be my freind why don't you come and say hello every thursday , meat raffle night in the pub , after all were both in there , but have never spoke , his answer was , Oh is that you . Crazy but true ,

I would assume Epstein had the number of lots of rich and powerful folk ,, Does'nt mean they all shagged little girls

Yes… I remember Bruno.. and all the other big cards. That’s why I said brought back.

I don’t think Matchroom was worth hundreds of millions at the time - as has been said above.

Sure - he had an amazing start. But that is no guarantee of success and his dad wouldn’t have given him the opportunity if he wasn’t cut out for it.

To give him no credit doesn’t make sense. You are basically saying anyone given his opportunity would have succeeded.

good points, Hearn is excellent at what he does and has grown the MR business and brand well. He deserves plaudits for that. I do wish he'd be a little more welcoming to Shalom though, he's achieved massive amounts in 7 years as a promoter and is only 30 now. I'm not saying Ben was born in a barn but who cares, he's built a company that has fought on 3 channels and is now on the biggest platform in the UK. He's made loads of mistakes but a break is due I think. He's growing on me.

I give the fighters credit. The ones who actually put in the blood, sweat and tears. Not a lad born with a silver spoon who simply carried on doing the same thing and basically makes a living out of taking a cut from the hard work boxers put in. It's not like he's a trainer who actually has to know the technical aspects of the game, know how to train people etc. And yes, give most people that start and they'd have done the same, never had to work a day in their lives and grew up in luxury and groomed to be a promotor. Give them a good education at a business school for a few years (Pay big money for schooling as money is no issue) and they would have to be mugs to fail with that kind of start. It's hardly rocket science is it. Joshua comes along and he just does what was done with Bruno before and he gets great credit as some kind of Einstein figure of boxing. It's ridiculous. You probably worship the royal family for their "achievements". Anyone here could have done it yes. Again, I'm not knocking Hearn but he was set up in such a way that he couldn't fail. The fact that people are out there bigging him up like hes some mastermind and being cheerleaders for him is embarrassing in my book. But its all about opinions.

He basically saved boxing over covid.
That giant bubble in a house and gym where fighters could train and then fight... No one in the world was doing that, the shows were good, and the fighters got paid.

Just for that, he is to be thanked.

I don’t laud him Leprechaun. I just think he’s done a decent job.

I’ve been around enough rich boys to know that their upbringing hasn’t guaranteed success. Tonnes of them have zero work ethic and just blow through piles of the family cash.

I can’t speak for the rest of the forum, but I couldn’t have done what he has and I worked in the sport for a decade (long time ago now!!).

You are right though. It is all about opinions - although I reckon ours on the Royal Family are pretty much aligned!

Goldenboy hates putting out a competitive matchup for their stars, whereas Hearn, along with Warren, has been putting his guys in tough ones this year because of the Saudi money. When you look at the facts, Oscar's bragging just exploits how bad the events are he puts on.

Exactly anyone slating promoters for their guys getting beat are missing the point, sure there's gonna be hype jobs but competitive fights is all we ask, I seen Billy Dib having a pop online for giving Liam Paro Hitchins for his first defence, fck that logic, you wanna be a world champ then don't expect fans to accept fodder regardless of its the first defence or 20th, there's a reason why its a brutal sport, survival of the fittest

Seems a bit desperate from oscar...

if he wants to win an argument just say " im an all time great fighter who made an all time great promotional company, you got your dads business and now your stable is crumbling".... not a 700 hour coke feuled rant about some of eds guys losing... especialy when half of them are eh...

-who cares that sandy ryan lost doubt ed is losing sleep over it.....
-Terri harper lost to sandy (an eddie fighter)
-berlanga was always going ro lose, ed did his job getting him in the ring,
-shakur didnt lose,
-Billy joe saunders? that was 4 years ago against canelo who ed was promoting at the time..
-Subriel Matias lost to another eddy fighter..
-Katie lost well over a year ago, avenged it and is booked in a massive fight.

not saying ed hasnt been having a rough trot, just saying coked up oscar is not making strong points.
