The film "Cinderella Man" was indeed "right" about Max Baer -- I know as I wrote the book and worked on the film for over two years. Max was wild -- made numerous racist and misogynistic comments, and even threatened to beat up 110-lb Jimmy Johnston. And the dope shot himself on the set of a radio broadcast fooling around with a gun.

Max appears to have lightened up after the Louis bout.

Yes, he does. Like a politician.

Myself, I think Max was on the take for the Braddock fight, but it can't be proven either way. On film Baer does not try and gives up the championship over Jimmy Braddock, a journey man by standing there and not throwing punches like he can.

Now Braddock was not known for defense.

Referee Johnny McAvoy took three rounds from Baer—the fifth, ninth and 12th—for either low blows or backhanding. Three points?

The fight took place in Madison Square Garden which had its share of alleged fixes in the 1930's. At 10-1 odds, Braddock betters cleaned house.

It was not a point deduction, you lost the round!
In the ten point system you loose a point in a winning round is is 9-9; but in The N.Y. Scoring you lost a winning round even if you had your opponent on the floor twice.
Much worse, just see the two Henry Armstrong v Lou Ambers fights.

Armstrong had so many point deductions because at that time a fighter couldnt lose a fight on a foul in New York. Armstrong took advantage of this and fouled the shit out of Ambers throughout the fight. Headbutts, elbows, low blows, the works. In any other venue he would have been at danger of a DQ but instead he suffered the deductions. The only thing bad about Armstrong getting deducted five points is the fact that he could have continued fighting this way and knocked Ambers out without fear of getting a DQ.

I was going to buy this book until I had a conversation with the author on social media and she was as big of a pos as she alleges Baer is, incredibly rude and aggressive to a potential customer, so no chance would I buy it now.

As for all the research she did, your a writer, that’s what you meant to do isn’t it?

Or is that another Cat Johnson writing a book about Frankie Campbell who calls herself “Frankies Gal” (thats whats creepy)…

The strangest aspect of this is that Cat Johnson used to call herself "Maxie's Gal" on this forum and on others, and hosted the maxbaer.org website, which was a good site and almost a shrine to Maxie.
I am fairly sure she was the world's biggest Max Baer fan only a few years ago.

Some of the conclusions drawn might be a stretch. There are a lot of segments that seem to outright accuse Max Baer of being a cynical liar because he apparently told contradictory versions of his account of the Campbell fight. I don't think individuals telling different versions of events over several years and decades (some of these versions may well have had newspaper 'ghost written' aspects too) proves some kind of 'master plan' of manipulation.

Again, the weirdest part for me, is the familiarity with this author's old website and forum posts about Max Baer. She was practically in love with him, and has now done a full one-eighty.

Exactly,I was seeing her years ago as Maxie s gal online.
Now a full 180 as u say as Frankie s Gal.
And however good or researched a book is 100th hand words almost 100 years later is hardly conclusive now.
