Dmitry Bivol wants Artur Beterbiev rematch

What a fight between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol last night.

It was one of the most anticipated fights of the year and it did not disappoint.

Two of the best pound for pound boxers in the world showed why they’re so good.

Going the full distance in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the pair put on a clash that was too close to call for many.

If the result had come out as a draw, it would not have been that big of a surprise.

But the end result was actually a win for Artur Beterbiev.

A unanimous decision in favour of the 39-year-old Russian boxer meant that he was crowned undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world.

That decision sparked an evening of fierce conversation.

Dmitry Bivol was humble in his speech after the fight.

Accepting the decision, Bivol expressed that he accepted the judges decision and would look to work harder to make his dream of being undisputed a reality in the future.

This wasn’t the same tone taken by his promoter, however.

Eddie Hearn lambasted the decision and even stated that one of the judges should never be involved in judging a boxing fight ever again.

With the dust settled on the matter, Bivol has come out with what he wants to do next.

Once again remaining humble and focusing more on his own performance rather than blaming anyone else, the former WBA (Super) light heavyweight champion spoke to the media last night.

Speaking to allegedly, Dmitry Bivol claimed that his only focus right now is on getting a rematch with Artur Beterbiev.

“I just want a rematch and that’s it”, Bivol told the YouTube channel.

“I want to get another chance”.

With Turki Alalshikh also stating that he plans to get a rematch made between the pair, it seems that’s the plan for what happens next.

For now, Artur Beterbiev will be able to celebrate his status as undisputed light heavyweight champion.

But the path towards changing that seems to already be on the mind of his opponent from last night, Dmitry Bivol.
Ok just for fun:
Betrebiev UD
Dubois UD
Stevenson KO
Sheeraz KO
Ortiz UD
Smith KO
Zhang KO

Wondering if at least one will be truth :D

Check out some of what he had to say below.

Bivol on who wins the Usyk vs Fury rematch
“I don’t know, I’m just also curious how all the people (are curious). It’s interesting fight. I think this fight with Fury, most of them depends on Fury’s shape, always. And I don’t know which shape he’s in.

“We can see different ways. Maybe Usyk will learn something and do more. Maybe Fury learn more. I don’t know, I don’t like prediction.”

On his upcoming rematch with Beterbiev
“Of course I’m happy that I have another chance and (Alalshikh), he told about this date the day after the (first) fight. The next day he invited us and he told us that he wanted to make rematch on this date. He asked me, he asked Beterbiev who said yes, and since that day I have in my head that I will have this chance again.”

On if he will prepare any differently for rematch
“Of course I need to do something different and I know what I will add, I know what I will change a little bit.”

Artur looked very strong and probably in the rematch he would start more determined from the first rounds to get the job done. Bivol would need to move fast and throw hard straight punches, then grab Artur.

Are any of Riyadh season cards a financial success?

I’m guessing it does a lot for Riyadh in general. They have lots of guests over. City must be a little booming around fight week.

I'm absolutely pumped for this card.

On paper, one of the best boxing cards in years, if not one of the best ever.

If this was B.T. (before Turki), each one of those fights would've been a main event of its own.

What a time to be a boxing fan.

100%

No doubt about it.

Even that reckoning card they did last year. With AJ-Wallin as headline.

All the rest of them HW fights on that card would have been their own headline as well.

The reckoning event was actually the card that came to my mind when I saw this card here.

I remember being so excited about that card, like a little kid going to Disneyland.

We are just not used to those kinds of cards.

Here are some excerpts of what Bivol had to say with the full video interview at the top.

Bivol on if he expects his rematch with Beterbiev to be any different from the first fight
“I think it will be a little bit different and I think it will be more interesting for the fans because we already know each other and it’s very soon, we could prepare ourselves better for this rematch.”

On how he assesses his performance from first fight
“What wasn’t good is I didn’t throw a lot of punches. I had to throw more punches. What was good, the moments when I catch him, when I punch him. I know how it happened but I don’t want to talk about how I punch him, how I did it, or why I didn’t throw enough punches. We are talking about it in the camp with my coach. We talked about (it) and now we are working, we’re training.

“I have to be better in all (aspects), everything I have to do better. I have to be better Dmitry Bivol than today or yesterday.”

On if he’s made changes in his preparations for the rematch
“Yeah, of course. Some new sparring partners, we have one new coach for stretching, and the situations around me is different, and my mind is a little bit different. A lot of different things.”

On the experience of losing his first professional fight
“Of course I don’t like to hear ‘the former world champion’ or ‘ex-world champion’ or I have one loss. I don’t like it but I cannot think too much about it. I just don’t have time to think about it and to pity myself about it. Just, I don’t like it. I want to move forward. Yes, it happened, okay. Let’s close this door, let’s move forward.

This monumental event, part of Riyadh Season, will take place at the ANB Arena in Saudi Arabia and features a stellar line-up of championship bouts, headlined by the highly anticipated rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol for the undisputed light heavyweight World Championship.

Beterbiev (21-0, 20 KOs), the reigning champion and one of boxing’s most impressive fights, is set to defend his perfect record in a rematch against Bivol (21-1, 11 KOs), who is determined to avenge his 2024 loss in what was one of the greatest bouts of the modern era. This headline fight promises to be another unforgettable chapter in boxing history.

On if beating Bivol a second time will feel as good as going undisputed the first time
“For fight, yes the same. That time I want to grab all belts, now I want to defend them.”

On how his ailing knee felt during first fight
“From first fight is a little bit short time before fight, it’s like four months, three months...it’s not perfect that time but now is better. Close to perfect.”

On whether Bivol was his toughest fight
“If you compare like, yeah, went to decision, yes you can say it’s toughest fight. But it’s a little bit different. I think in my boxing career I (faced) more strong guys but it’s different. But you can say it’s toughest fight.”

On why he refuses to shake hands his opponents during pre-fight build ups
“It’s very simple, you know. Like, for example, we have fight tomorrow night, you want to beat me. You want to punch me hard as you can. Why I give a shake?”
